Mine #5 is located in the mountain above the airport, very close to the new world seed vault. When we got there, we first learned about the history of the mine, before we got our siuts and helmets and went in to the mine, We could unfortunatley not bring our cameras in there because of the methane levels. If we took pictures in there, we could start an explosion..
But we got to see muh of it, and even climb in to the walls where they extracted the coal, and there is no room to stand, you have to crwal in there. Pretty impressive that the miners managed to work under those conditions and with all those heavy tools!
For dinner tiday, we had invited Sigmund and his wife Boopa with us to Funktionærmessen restaurant at the Spitsbergen Hotel. It is the most recognized restaurant at Svalbard. We had a 5 course meal and it was just perfect from beginning to end! Afterwards we stayed in the bar for drinks, before we moved on to a bar called SvalBar and oartied for the rest of the night. Loads of fun!!
