Last year we went for a couple of days to berlin by train. Berlin is overwhelming! You wil like it, or you hate it! But you have to be an optimistic person not to get depressed in Berlin. Berlin will let you feel the second world war everywhere you walk or go or see. Even in the newspapers and on tv. We stayed in hotel Berlin winters mitte. Next to the Friedrichstrasse. When you walk through this street you will end up at check point charley. The point between East and West Berlin. There is also a museum you can visit. Further on there is a piece of the wall left. The wall was 45,3 km long and build between 1961 and demolished in 1989. In Berlin mitte is a little peace of the wall left, and also on the Spree.

The Sony building.
And players pretend to do so as during the war. (when we visit this place an old man came up to the player and started to abuse him) first we thought this was part of the play, because the man was funny dressed like a prisoner. But it was for real. The player really called the police to help him, he said i am just a student earning my money. This shows how much the war is still alive for a lot of people. In fact it is depressing.

After the war Berlin was taken up by allied troups of France, United Kingdom, usa and the sovjet union. During the conference of Potsdam Berlin was divided in four sectors. Berlin was the centre point of the "cold war", because the city was located in the middle of the russian sector.

What also a nice area is, is Unter den Linden. There is a restaurant called Einstein where you can sit and have a nice meal, or just coffee and an apfelstrudel.

Near De Reichstag.
This is a very famous place. Here you can find The Brandenburger Tor, Build in 1778. This one is the only one which had survived the war. The hight of this building is 26 m. And 65,5 m. wide.

In fact berlin has a lot of special buildings you really should see. New ones and old ones. The new one is the Sony building, spectacular colors on the glassroof. The famous shop Lafayette, a wonderfull glass roof as well!

If you have time enough and you are not depressed by now, you really should visit Sachsenhausen. It is a bit difficult to reach or better to come back to Berlin, because the bus in Sachsenhausen does not drive too often. Once in the two hours or so. Until i thougt 4 o'clock.

This is a concentration camp. One of the first. This is where they killed the Roman people. It is very sad but very educative and impressive.
