Nearing Morro Bay, one of the first sights, other than the rock itself, is the power plants with the tall smoke stacks.
Living in the center of California has many advantages. A few hours from our home we can be in the mountains, with plenty of snow in the winter, in either San Francisco, or Los Angeles, although we really don’t do that because of the traffic, or at the coast.
It’s only about two hours to the Pacific Ocean and one of the things we like to do is make a day trip to get out of the valley and have lunch at a wonderful little place in Morro Bay. The Pacific Café on the waterfront serves a wonderful lunch of fish and chips or Calamari.
The view is wonderfully relaxing with the bay, small boats, sea gulls, and of course the namesake Morro Rock .
Although it can be foggy and cool, the sun usually breaks through by late morning and provides a sunny but comfortable day away from either the cold of winter or the heat of summer.
Morro Bay, being on the ocean front and a tourist town, has loads of restaurants. And, I'll admit I have not eaten at all of them. But this one is right down on the bay and offers very good food and drink. Fish and chips, or Calamari and chips seem to be the favorites on the lunch menu but they have wonderful soups, and sandwiches which are made to order. The view is wonderful, with the small boats slowly cruising past, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. The lunch prices aren't cheap but neither are they expensive. The evening brings linen tablecloths and napkins, candles, and wine, with prices much more upscale and menu to match.
I highly recommend the lunch.
