Well, I made it to Denver and Colorado Springs today for the beginning of my first trip to Colorado. Flew into Denver (DEN) and then drove down to Colorado Springs for a few days. I'll then be off to Breckenridge and end up in Denver for one last night on Thursday. I'll be updating my blog daily while here with some pictures and reviews. Once I return home, I'll have to sit down to do a thorough posting on everything. Ciao!

Some of the ominous clouds that awaited us on our way to Garden of the Gods.

Made the 1 hour drive down from Denver to C Springs and I have to say - I was expecting the Denver area to be a little more hilly and not so flat.  We have bigger hills than these in GA!  LOL.  Of course, Denver isn't in the mountains so I guess it's to be expected.  I also expected more trees and not the arid alpine desert that we saw on the approach into DEN.

On the drive to Colorado Springs from the Denver airport using E-470, be prepared to pay 3 different tolls that total about $6.  It's the quickest way to get to Interstate 25 south heading toward C Springs.  Signage on the interstate and local roads is great so don't worry about getting lost as long as you have some basic directions on where you're headed.

Spent most of the afternoon getting unpacked and trying to decide what else to do.  We eventually decided to head over to The Garden of the Gods at the base of the Rocky Mountains, if we could beat the thunderstorms, that is!

Garden of the Gods - An Absolute Must see in C. Springs, CO
This famous collection of red rock formations in the southwest region of Colorado Springs is a destination you won't want to leave off of any itinerary to this part of Colorado. Most popular in the summer months, the park is open year round, however the hours of operation shorten during the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons. At Memorial Day (the last weekend in May for non-residents of the U.S.), hours extend to 12 hours a day, 7 days a week offering you plenty of time to see these factastic monoliths.

Given as a gift to the residents of Colorado City by the children of railroad magnate Charles Elliot Perkins in 1909, it was his dying wish that the park remain free for the public the enjoy. In 1979, Garden of the Gods park became a Registered National Natural Landmark.

From it's eight miles of trails, you will see everything from wild animals (bears, cougar, deer, magpies, snakes and a host of other animals), all types of native vegetation and flora. The trails offer views of Pike's Peak. You can also take guided nature walks, mountain biking, rock climbing (with a valid permit only) or simply have a family picnic in the many open fields in the park. The park is most famous for a formation called the Kissing Camels and Balanced Rock.

The best part of all - this park is FREE! Wear comfortable shoes because it's a lot of walking.

Thanks - you don't know what you're missin, dude! I've got tons more photos from today - I'm just absolutely worn out. It's 1:15 AM in Atlanta so not sure what I'm still doing up. Maybe I should re-join the 'crazy about TB' group again! LOL.
