In the morning we went for another hike to learn about more plants and to go fishing.  Neither Karine nor I caught anything but I enjoyed sitting there by the babbling brook, soaking up the hot Amazonian sun.  What I did NOT enjoy, however, was soon after when our guide speed walked us through various streams of quick moving waters and slippery rocks.  I didn´t mind so much when the water rushed over the top of my boots, filling them instantly, but I was extremely worried abut falling in and destroying my camera and all the pictures I had so far.  I made it back without doing so, however, much to my surprise and relief.  Right now I´m swinging lazily in a hammock in our lodge, clean and refreshed.  Near our lodge is a gorgeous bathing spot straight out of my dreams: a babbling brook stretches past in both directions, rushing over the rocks and calming in the middle, creating a tranquil pool of clear sparkling water.  A giant rock outcrop forms the back border, topped with luscious vegetation stretching high into the air.  Butterflies dance lazily all around, and giant tropical leaves overhang in all directions.  We bathed here for about an hour, watching the children play with the swing rope attached to one of the overhanging vines.

After our swim we took it rather easy for the evening, doing some jewelry making similar to what we used to do in middle school or girl scouts, here however the thread came from a local leaf, and the beads were seeds that our guides drilled holes into themselves.  After dinner we got to make our own chocolate with the cocoa beans grown behind the lodge.  Ground up like coffee beans, the cocoa is rapidly cooked with a bit of milk and sugar to produce rich fresh chocolate syrup.  We had another long conversation with Nixon, and the convo eventually turned a bit racy as he told us about the various tourista women eager to sample a slice of local love, courtesy of himself.  I wasn´t really surprised, he was a nice looking young man with long dark hair, exotic eyes and a quick smile. There was even at one point a 65 yr old woman propositioned him, but Nixon was no ageist and gladly showed her the ropes.  We discussed the machismo local attitude; as Nixon said almost all men have girlfriends in addition to wives, and flings in addition to those girlfriends.  He was fully convinced the women had no idea, but Karine and I tried to explain that these wives and girlfriends themselves must have been approached by numerous married men, and therefore knew how men act when away from their significant others.  He refused to believe us however, so we didn´t argue further and left him alone with his rather blindly macho belief that the women couldn´t possibly suspect their activities.
