Taken from under the bridge just as it started to rain.

After breakfast, Lena went
to her moms while I finish laundry and hung out at her brother’s house. Since
we packed very light, doing laundry every few days is a necessity. They do not
have a clothes dryer, so getting clothes to dry takes a few days hanging up.
Also, no softener, so everything is very stiff. I can’t wait to get home and
wash all our clothes. My t-shirts are getting a little itchy.
After lunch, Lena returned
and we decided to take a walk through town. Even though we have walked back and
forth to mom’s house many times, we really haven’t walked around Gävle
exploring the different areas of the town. There is a river that runs through
town and the area all around the river is like a park.
One of many small wooden bridges crossing over the stream.
There are many benches
and places to stop and sit along a trail which circles the area. Along the many
paths are small wooden bridges so you can cross over from one side to another.
When we first started our walk, it was sunny with a few
clouds, but 10 minutes later, we saw rain clouds approaching, so we made our
way to the main bridge and stood underneath until the rain let up. It wasn’t
long before the sun came back out and we were on our way. We didn’t have any
time to be any where, and we really didn’t know where we were going, but we
walked and enjoyed the rest of the day together. Eventualy we found our way to
the street and checked a large map posted near the bike path. Once we figured
out where we were, we started back home.
Once back at Göran’s house, we asked Lisa, Lena’s
niece, where we could walk to get a good pizza.
The big map we found that helped us find our way back home. We only walked about 1/4 of the pathway around the city.
We figured, if you want to know
where the good pizza place is at, ask a teenager. Once we had our directions,
Lena and I were off again for a 15 to 20 minute walk to a small place called Dallas
. According to
Lisa, they had very good pizza. When we got there, thanks to me since Lena
misunderstood Lisa’s directions and almost got us
walking a few extra kilometers, it didn’t look like much. But, we were there
and we were hungry, so this was dinner good or bad. We went in, found a seat
and other than 3 teenage girls just finishing their food, we were the only ones
in the place. We ordered our food and some drinks, and watched Hard Rock/Metal
music videos on the big screen TV in the corner of the room. I was enjoying
this, good music, Swedish pizza and a few beers!! At one point, the owner (I
think it was the owner) came out and started to change the station on the
A shot of the river running through Gävle as the sun sets.
I said something to him about this,
in my best Swedish, and he handed me the remote and I changed it back. Lena
just laughed at me and shook her head. Hey, I didn’t
care, I had a few beers in me and I wanted to watch the Hard Rock/Metal music videos!!
Once we finished our food, we paid our bill, smiled at the
other workers and said good bye. I’m sure I gave them something to talk about
Once home, we had some ice cream which we had bought from
the store earlier and chatted with Göran and Bibi at the kitchen table until it
was time for bed.
Tomorrow Lena and I are taking a drive to the coast of the Baltic Sea.
