Today is our last full day here in Sweden. Other than going to moms tonight for a crayfish party, we have no other plans for today. We have to pack all our stuff, including the things we bought while we were here, and fit it into our bags. We did travel light, two small suitcases and a very small duffle bag, along with Lena’s laptop, so the two of us can easily handle carry the bags. We made sure the heaviest stuff was in the suitcases since they have wheels, the rest was stuffed any where we could fit it.

Later that afternoon, we walked to moms and spent time with her and helped prepare for dinner. Later, Göran, Bibi and Lisa arrived with more food and two boxes of wine.

The crayfish are served!
Once all the food was ready, we all sat down to the first course of meatballs, potatoes, little wieners, and mom’s homemade svampomelett, which is basically mushroom omelet. Once we were done with all of that, out came the crayfish. Now in the States, crayfish are usually steamed or boiled with Cajun seasoning, but in Sweden, they use salt and fresh dill. Eating them is the same I guess since I’ve never had them in the States, only here in Sweden. When I was little living in Wisconsin, my Grandfather and I use to catch them for fishing bait, but we never ate them.

Eating them is pretty simple. First you suck the juice out of the body from where the legs are attached, and then you pull off the tail and suck the juice out of the body. Then, eat the meat out of the tail and the claws. That’s it; you’re ready for the next one now! Just repeat until all the crayfish are gone. After we finished off the crayfish, a homemade desert called marängswiss was brought out. This is meringue, fresh whipped cream, chocolate and bananas. As much as I had already eaten, I couldn’t pass on this! We spent the rest of the evening sitting at the table chatting and finishing off the wine.

Good thing we didn’t have to catch our train until 10:00 am. I definitely drank too much wine, oh and the shots too!

Tomorrow we go home :(
