Our first full day in Gävle was spent walking across town to visit Lena’s mom at her condo.Today is her 80th birthday and there is a party later on tonight. The walk to Lena's mom's house is only an half hour, so it’s easy to do. After spending some time walking the town with her mom, we went back to her brothers house for a very nice party celebrating Lena’s mom’s birthday. The party went well and the weather was perfect. We ate outside on the back deck and started the party by singing happy birthday (in Swedish) then toasting the birthday girl with sparkling wine. Then the first course was served which included Gravad Lax (cured Salmon) Janssons Frestelse and boiled potatoes. The main course was next which was Pork Tenderloin cooked on the grill, oven baked potatoes, green beans and a tomato, apple and feta salad.
Of course there was plenty of wine to go around as well. The party started to break up as the sun was setting, and I drove a few of the guest to the train station since I was the only sober one there…well mostly sober.
Most of time here in Gävle is going to be very relaxing and more like being at home, but not having to go to work. We don’t have much planned as far as site seeing go’s, but we will be in Stockholm for a few days, and we’re taking the train to Sundsvall to visit some of Lena’s cousins for a couple of days. We pretty much wake up and decide what we are doing, if any thing. So until we get to Stockholm, I might not have much to write about, but I’ll still make a journal entry and I’ll have lots of pictures!
