Day 1 - Had a 6.30am start from the hotel. Were picked up by our tour guide. 2 hour bus journey to KM82 which is the start of the treck. Was introduced to our porters and chefs. Walked 11km through fairly flat ground. Made camp by 5.30pm and more or less straight to bed after dinner.
Day 2 - Had a 4.30am start. Have an 9km treck. Most of it is uphill through dead womans pass, goes on forever!! Get as high as 4,200m. Only takes 4.0 hrs so have most of the evening free. Some view from the campsite.
Day 3 - Had a 6.0am start. Walk 16.5km through two mountain passes. Lots of guided tours of the ruins on the way. Catch our first glimse of the outside of Machupicchu in the evening.
Day 4 - Up at 4.00am. Head off straight after breakfast. Get to the Sun Gate - the entrance to Machupicchu by 7.00am so get to see the sun rising over the city, pretty cool. Get a guided tour of the city for a few hours and then its onto a bus and down to the local town. The town was built in the last few years with the sole purpose of taking tourists from the Inca trail. Got no road through it only a rail track so looks like something out of the wild west. Catch the train and another bus back to Cuzco and its more or less straight to bed for some much needed sleep.
