Only one day in Glasgow...

Tara, skeptical about our hostel dormer.

Tara wanted to see a little bit more of Europe than just Paris, so we decided to book tickets on Ryanair to Glasgow.  Anyone who's flown Ryanair knows that they're always in out-of-the-way airports that are a pain to get to, even if the flights ARE really cheap...

So we get on a bus at 10pm on January 1 to Beauvais in order to catch our 11:30 flight to Prestwick in Scotland.  Who do we see? The odd couple from the Highlander on New Year's Eve!  They offered to give us a ride from the Prestwick airport to our hostel in Glasgow...how nice is that?  They were very sweet and so generous...I don't know how we would have made it to Glasgow if it wasn't for them.  It was an hour ride!

Tara and I got into our hostel (The Bluesky Hostel) and settled in for a few hours of sleep.

Glasgow
..we wanted to get an early start in the morning.  We took a walk around Glasgow...unfortunately, January 2 is a bank holiday, so NOTHING was open.  It's important to research things like that before you plan trips...oops.  Trains were fortunately still running, so we took a train out to Loch Lomond and explored the beautiful Scottish countryside a bit.

Scotland is beautiful and the people are friendly...I really would love to go spend more than one day there someday.  I want to go to Edinburgh and to Inverness...I'm fascinated by the highlands.  I have Scottish blood, and it's always fun to explore one's "homeland".

That night, the only bar we could find that was open was a place called Campus...it seemed like a very young crowd.  Lots of kids in their early 20s.  Tara and I felt like the oldest people there.  It was still a great night though...the Proclaimers showed up and did a set!  There were lots of young Scots running around in kilts, and the DJ was playing some great Scottish classics...one of the songs was Loch Lomond.  Who knew that loch was so famous!?  Our plane left at 5am, so we had to take a bus at 3:30am, and a cab to the bus at 3.  We unfortunately only slept two hours...it was rough.  But seriously, you do crazy things when you travel!

We made it back to Paris by 11...unfortunately we had to stand in line for at least an hour for the bus from Beauvais back into Paris, and it was cold, snowy, windy, and we were extremely crabby.  When I get crabby, I whine.  When Tara gets crabby, she's stone silent.  We were a good match until she yelled at me for being a whiney baby.  It was warrented though...I was pretty obnoxious.  We slept most of the day, but went out that evening for Mika's birthday...phew.  Crazy couple of days.
