Spring in Paris

early morning spring in paris

It was pure luck that we arrived in Paris in such a great weather.  The umbrella we brought with us was only used once and the rest of our 4 days stay was pure bliss.  Gorgeous weather in such a gorgeous city!

Paris was exactly how i imagined it to be, in fact, way better.  Spring made it all glorious, because i found out that it was at this time when they start to have the white nights.  [Strange as it may seem that for some Asian like me, we actually have a word for it.  Anyway, 'white nights' simply means having some 3pm ambience in an already 8pm real time.]  Isn't it great?  You get a longer day time than usual which translates to: practically extending everything!

First thing we did was to walk the streets of Paris in early morning, it was the best thing.

arc de triomphe
I find the narrow cobbled-streets fascinating.  The hotel where we stayed at was nice, a bit small and rather old ..... but the street where it's at (Rue Cler) was interesting.  It has specialty shops of many varieties from wines to cheeses, fruits and vegetables, linens, baby stuff, stationery shop, books, shoes to practically almost anything.   And of course, the cafes (oh the endless cafes) all over the place which stays open till the wee hours of the morning --- they give you a certain feeling that you belong somehow.  All you have to do is grab a table outside, order cafe, smoke, watch the people walk by and voila! you're doing a paris way-of-life!

When did I see the Eiffel?  Well, that same morning we took an early walk (while the whole of Paris was still asleep!)  Seeing the Eiffel Tower for the first time, in that cold early morning (on my birthday!) was simply amazing!  The sun was just about to break, and as it hits the structure, it made it even more stunning!

We did some serious walking all around Paris (we were as touristic as we could be).

louve courtyard
From Eiffel Tower, where Trocadero is just in the opposite direction, we walked the long boulevard, passing the  wonderful bridges of river seine. and reaching Place dela Concorde, a famous meeting point.  A visit to the church of Notre Dame was 2nd on the list -- it was so grand and the voices of the choir echoes magnificence in this amazing structure.   Then we walked all the way to the Louve yard.  We went to  visit the Louvre the following day.  Tip:  a whole day should be allowed for the Louvre Museum.  There were just too many magnificent artworks to see.

We spent one wonderful afternoon in Versailles.

le pont Alexandre III
Ideally, we should have arrived earlier to give us some time to get inside the museum.  But as such, we had to be content with the vast gardens and magnificent view.  It was worth the travel nonetheless.

Montmartre area was another interesting place.  We walked up the steep hill to Sacre Coeur (marvelous interior!).  Up there, just right in front of the church was a wonderful view of the panoramic Paris at 4 in the afternoon.  I can tell you that it's a must among the things one should do in this city.  Then it was time for lunch at 5pm!  The best place to eat was at Montmartre too, near the line up of many souvenir shops where we did our shopping just after.

In the end, we told ourselves, we just can't do it all in 4 days.  So the verdict:  we'll just have to come back.
