A drive to St Johns Observatory

Well this morning we all got up and got ready to go to Rodger & Merja's weekend house. It is about a 50 minute drive from their home. We had a short stop in Farlie to buy some food for lunch and then headed straight to their house in Kimbell. They had a few things that they needed to do while they were there, so we enjoyed the scenery before having lunch.
They let there little ute called Hercules run for a while as it is kept there so that they can use it moving things around. Hercules is cute. We watched the sheep and the lambs frolicking and I took more photos of snow capped mountains. What a life!
We then all went to Tekapo. Andrew and I had been here the week before but it had been raining and misty and a lot of the roads had been closed off. Today the weather was brilliant and they took us to a little church which is beautiful and then up to St Johns Observatory. To get there it is up a steep, narrow winding road but when you get to the top it is worth it.
It is easy to see why the astronomers like to go up there and gaze at the sky. Of course it was daytime when we were there but the scenery was spectacular. Apparently there is a walking trail from Tekapo to the top of the hill.
After enjoying the view and having a drink we headed back to Timaru, relaxed and had dinner. The men went to bed about 10.30pm and Merja and I talked til about 2am.
Again, great day, great night and great company!
