Today we drove from Christchurch to Picton. We passed through a suburb called Belfast so as I was born in Belfast Northern Ireland, I had to take a photo.
We had an easy and enjoyable drive. We stopped in Kaikoura for lunch and decided that we would come back one day. The day was reasonably clear and we could see the snow on the mountains.
After heading out of Kaikoura we spotted some seals on the the rocks so we pulled over to take some photos. There was one sunbaking just a few feet away from us so I think we got some good photos.
We finally reached Picton and spotted some one carving a life size bear.
We then found the hotel that we had booked. After settling in, it was time to head downstairs and wait for our Trav Buddy friend, Glennis and her husband Erle. I think that we were all a bit aprehensive as this was the first time we had done this and we were the only ones. Not like we had a large group to hide behind.
A car came in to the driveway of the hotel and I recognised Glennis's smiling face. That was a good start. We introduced ourselves properly and then Glennis and Erle were kind enough to show us around Picton. Amongs other things, they took us to some Maori ruins and a Maori meeting place. We wouldn't have known that they were there. We told them about the bear carving but couldn't tell them what street it was on. (I sent Glennis a txt in the morning as we were leaving to let her know where it was)
We were dropped of at the hotel again but were picked up again to go to their local club for dinner. It was a lovely meal with lovely people. Then it was time to say our fare wells. We all felt relieved that it had gone so well and are looking forward to meeting more Trav Buddies.
