It was still very misty in Tekapo and because we didn't know what was around we decided to drive to Wanaka where we thought we might stay over night because we both love Wanaka. We had some lunch and then thought maybe we could get into Cardrona a bit earlier than we had booked.
We had actually booked into the Cardrona Snow Park for the 27th & 28th. Because we had never driven up to the park before we weren't sure which way we had to go so when we got to the T junction we followed the sign. However, when we got to the carpark we couldn't see any signs re accommodation so we went back the other way to the Snow Farm.
After getting directions to the building that we needed to go to, we drove back to the first carpark that we had been to, walked to the building that we were told to go to, no signs of course so apparently we weren't the only ones to get confused.
We asked them the same question about being there a night early and they said yes it was ok. This is were the real nightmare began. They said we were in Appartment 1 rm 3, with shared living area. Because it had been raining they took us back to the carpark in the 4 wheel drive and we got our luggage and were taken to our appartment. The girl that drove us there took off and when we checked our room we weren't happy with it and when we went up to the living area there was a man stretched out on the sofa and the kitchen was a pigstye.
I rang reception and told them that I wasn't happy. They were down in a hurry with apologies, however I think that they were in trouble as the man was the owner and there was not supposed to be anyone else in the appartment while he was there! They then offered us Appartment 4 and we could choose the room as there was no one else in the appartment that night but would be the next night. We chose rm 4 as it was on the same level as the living area and we could enjoy the views from there. We sat in the lounge area watching the skiing, had our microwave soups for dinner. All was good. There was also night skiing on.
It had been raining for a few days so outside the snow had turned to ice and the dirt was mud so we were happy being inside and warm.
However, wait for tommorrows nightmare!
