Scenic Boat Trip To Siem Reap

The local rude boys

Seen as we can't get planes or buses right, we thought we would take the scenic route up the river from Battambang to Siem Reap. It's the hot and dry season in Cambodia so the water levels are low. This means that the only boats that can use the river are the slower diesel-powered ones, one that would take us double the time it would take in the wet season. It was good fun, despite the early start, to cruise up the river, watching Cambodian life away from the cities and towns we had become accustomed to. However, the novelty wore off after the first few hours, and after a few close shaves where we thought we were stuck, arriving eight hours later, feeling tired with sore backs from the bits of wood we were sat on, having not eaten for the duration, we were ready for dry land and some food.
