Last Full Day In South America
February 20, 2007
Our last full day in Chile and South America was a bit more cultured than most. We began by visiting the cathedral in the city centre. Very grand, we did our best to take some photos in the dim light without a flash, and looked at some of the awesome statues and paintings in the massive building.
We then visited the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural. This was interesting enough, and we were relieved to receive walkaround headphone commentary on most of the artefacts, albeit a little confusing.
All cultured out, we went to the farmers market to purchase lunch. We were told Chile was more expensive than Argentina and other South American countries, but we bought fruit by the kilo for about 20p, and made some nice fresh cheese and ham sarnies to take and eat by the river.
As the sun started to fade, we took the relatively small ascent to the top of Cerro Santa Lucia where there were nice views of the rest of the city, including the mountain we had climbed the day before.
