Breezing Through Townsville
With only really daylight hours to explore Queensland's third biggest city, we thought the best plan of attack would be to get up high and survey the lot from above. Perfect for this is Castle Hill, a 300-metre tall towering hill overlooking Townsville and Magnetic Island across the bay, where we were to catch a ferry to that very evening. On a scorching day, we ascended the many steps to the top, where there was a few circular walking tracks to circumnavigate the big mound.
Having had enough of steps, we headed back down into the CBD and checked out the city centre. Mainly full of seafood restaurants and dodgy-looking nightclubs, it seemed to offer more to a student than a couple of backpackers. Hardly a surprise, really, seen as it's home to James Cook University, and is only really seen as a stepping stone to Magnetic Island, our next stopover for the next few days.
