Joost is Celebrating the "Hungry Ghost Festival"
I met Joost at my first Travbuddy meeting held at Kuala Lumpur. He is the first friend that i hosted from Travbuddy.
He arrive at Johor Bahru on 15th Aug 2008 around 6.00pm. Today is the 15th day of seventh lunar month in the chinese calendar and it is so called the Hungry Ghost Festival. Actually this is a month long festival and most of the people believe the gates of hell are thrown open, releasing hungry ghosts to wander the earth in search of food and taking revenge upon those who wronged them in life.
To appease these wandering spirits, Buddhists and Taoists burn bundles of joss sticks, paper hell money, food, and other offerings by the roadside. In Malaysia, pieces of gold and silver colored paper are rolled into tubes and folded in both ends to make them look like silver and gold ingots. The Chinese believe that by doing so, they would receive blessings from the gods and spirits
So after leaving his backpack at my house, i brought him to my office where we will be celebrating the festival too.
