Clarke Quay by boat.
Named after Sir Andrew Clarke, Singapore's second governor; Clarke Quay sits astride the river and promises a wide variety of colour, bars, beers and people. It's a hectic place, with lots of beer emporiums fighting for space, seats and your custom. It also has a selection of clubs, themed bars (my favorite was Clinic furnished using old hospital equipment), and a great fountain for muppets to run through and get wet! It's the beating heart of the city at night, and we certainly sank a couple of beers here, though it was a little more expensive than bars off of the beaten trail.

The best thing about the place was the colour, each house a different lurid and vivid shade. It gave the area energy, and made it inviting and exciting, as much a feast for the eyes as the food was for the belly. The teeming throngs of people also added the sensation that it had a pulse, a great spot to stop and chill, or get paraletic depending on the proclivity of the person. (My preference varies depending on a) how hot, and b) how poor I am...)
