Finally meeting May!

Brussels Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

This is my blog for all you lovely TB's I've met. Well... I have to say up to now I have only met 1, hahahaha. But May she is so cool with her Bangkok gang she deserves the blog all for her own! Anyway, hope many others of you will be in here soon too :) Let's go meet up!

Finally meeting May!

Rainbow over Brussels :)
Whooohooo I was so excited today! That is because tonight I was finally to meet May (Tazmania), the cool girl from Thailand :) I haven't slept that well the night before because I was so nervous for my first ever TB meet up! Always I was counting down thinking about the meet, wondering if May could receive my phone messages and if we would get things arranged. You see I'm a planning freak, so I have been stalking poor May with messages... Sorry for all the trouble girl, I couldn't help myself :S

May is the crazy girl that brought her friends all the way over to Belgium and Germany to see summer festivals! Hahaha they are all music freaks, lol. I love it that they are all so passionate about it that they travel this far to see the bands play! But today is Sunday and they will return to Brussels from the Pukkelpop festival in Hasselt.
May and her friends and the BEER :) They are Palm, Jing, Mee and May!!!
They brought the sun over here from Thailand, because the last 5 years, it has always been raining like hell at Pukkelpop and this year, it has been sun only!!! Go May :D

We decided to meet in Brussels so I took the train up there. In Leuven it was all sunny but when I got closer and closer to the capital it started to rain! At first I didn't like it but then when I got out there was a beautiful rainbow and the sky was clearing up again... That's the crazy Belgium weather :)

So I meet May and her friends at the Grand Place. She told me to look for the tall girl with the army shirt in front of CBC Bank. Hahaha, so I found her quickly and was to meet her friends too. Jeeeej: I was so glad to finally see them :D I couldn't help from smiling when I saw them standing there. So I was grinning like an idiot while I was walking my way over the grand place towards them :) Than we introduced and I told them in Belgium, it is always three kisses to greet! Sawasdee Kaa to all of you :D

After the festival and the long trip, my new Thai friends were all very hungry so they asked me to suggest a place to eat.
It all started with Palm's cheese eyes... In Flemish "kaas ogen". Hahahaha...
I go to Brussels only like 3 times a year, so I don't know many places! But I know Rue des Bouchers close to the main square that is full of restaurants. And I brought my map especially to find all the nice spots but... I got lost!!! I felt so sad that I couldn't help my guests to find a good restaurant! I am such a lousy guide... :( I'm so sorry May, I'm so worthless for a tour through Brussels...

We finally sat down at a Kebab restaurant with a waiter that thought I look like a German girl. Noooo! I do not look like a German girl! Don't you say that! I was still so nervous and excited because I couldn't believe I lost the way in Brussels now I had finally met May... I spilled my Coke too... I've been doing nothing but silly stuff, hahahaha. But I've been trying to make up and be a good guide by translating the menu from French to English.
...Than there were the pickles eyebrows...
May brought me a card that shows Thai food! I so love the Thai food :D I have posted the card in front of my office desk today so I can look at it all day and dream about the holiday and the May meet up! Thank you May you are so kind to bring it for me! I'm sorry to almost spill my Coke on it!!!

I so loved the way everybody ate the Kebab plates! Hahahaha there were four people and three dishes and they all shared all of the food. So funny because in Belgium, we don't do that at all. May told me that it is the Thai way of eating and it is so true. I just loved to watch!

After the dinner I wanted to take all of my cool new friends to a very old café in Brussels that is called La Mort Subite.
...And the salami cheeks... Whahahahaha!
I got the tip from Denmark TB Christian (Chokk) who works in Brussels so he knows lot's of places. So I looked it up at home and suddenly I remembered: I have been there before! Hahahaha, so now I really wanted to bring May here to taste some more of the Belgian beer. Only problem is we had to find it and all I did earlier was getting lost! Oh no!

But luckily, May's friend Palm, who is the navigator, led us to the right spot. Whahahaha he is here for how many days and he knows Brussels already better than me! On our way we passed the cathedral and we also got waffles :) May tried the waffle with banana and chocolate. Hope you liked it honey! Her friend tried one with nothing extra, the way most Belgian people eat the waffles as snacks. I hope she liked it too :) We got into the café and I talked to the waiter so we could take the waffle inside as well, but May didn't like the waiter so much.
We are all playing with the food :D
He was trying to be funny but actually he was not so funny... I understand why you felt like he was being rude! Don't be upset May honestly he didn't mean to insult you, I'm sure! It is the Belgian café humor... Men at café's are never funny but they always think they are, hahahaha!

So in the café we all ordered beer and I also wanted to treat to a mixed plate with salami, pickles and cheese with mustard. In Belgium when we go out we often have mixed plates with our drinks. I didn't realize it is typically Belgian, as for me it is a very normal thing to do. But Christian told me he thinks it is very typical so now I wanted to share with the Thai gang :) So we've been drinking beer and talking and playing with the food, hahahaha. People must have been thinking we were crazy but we had so much fun taking the funny pictures! It was such great night.
Us!

But it was also Sunday and so there weren't many buses back home... Unfortunately I had to leave at 9u30 pm by train to catch the last bus connection home... When I got to Leuven it was 10u31 and my bus is at 10u32 so I had to run really hard! But I made it :) I wish I could have stayed longer with these fabulous people in Brussels. I really had a wonderful evening and I hope they had too. So last night I slept really well still happy about the meet up :D I can't wait to see May, Dodge, New, Aioh, and who knows Mays crazy music fan friends too, next year in Bangkok!

So May and you other amazing Bangkok girls, you know I am your Belgium fan club over here!!! Whooohooo I'm coming to visit soon :D I gave May to bring a present for all of you! It is for May and her travel crew and you girls over there in Thailand of course!!! I hope May has brought it back intact because it is to share between all of you ;) Hope you'll like it! Here is my big Thai smiley for you:  (^____^) (^____^) (^____^) (^____^)

And especially thank you May for taking time to meet and introducing me to your friends! All of you are the best :D Hope you enjoyed our little night out as much as I did!

About 100 years old and full of beers :)
I was reminded about La Mort Subite by Christian (Chokk), who told me it is one of his favorite café's in Brussels. And yes, it is a really nice place indeed. Only thing I don't like about it is that you can smoke inside...

So La Mort Subite is a very old café, founded in 1910, and almost around for a century! It is always been known for it's beer and so is Belgium :) But even though it is a very typical place it isn't too touristy yet. Very much locals are to be found here, and so it is still a real Brussels place.

You can try many different beers here, in a setting that is really quite unique. The interior hasn't been changed over the years, the walls are old and yellow and covered with mirrors and black and white pictures in frames. The ceiling is high and the room long. You can have a drink her at the old small wooden tables, but on the menu are Belgian snacks such as omelets as well.

I would really recommend going here when in Brussels, because it is a place other than others, and it breaths the flair of the old days. When "Brussels was still a sparkling town", as sang in the Flemish song "Brussel" by Liesbeth List :)
