I Amsterdam! NYE party

Amsterdam Travel Blog › entry 2 of 2 › view trip summary

This is my blog for all you lovely TB's I've met. Starting with meeting May and her Thailand gang and the wonderful Amsterdam NYE meet-up full of lovely people, where I finally met Aioh and JC :) Hope many more are to come!

I Amsterdam! NYE party

Aioh and JC!!!
First of all I need to say thank you so much to everyone who organized this party! It was so great :) And thank you as well to everyone who was there, for being a part of it! I had the most lovely time and I miss you all so much. Let's meet again somewhere soon :)

Well, where to start my story? I subscribed pretty late for the meet-up because I'm a shy girl and at first I didn't dare to go. Silly me! Now I'm so glad I did :) But well, by the time I confirmed I didn't find an affordable hotel anymore for just one night, but luckily Aioh let me put my stuff in her room at Movenpick hotel. My silly Bangkok girl coming all the way from Thailand to the freeze for the NYE party, together with JC (Ratu).
So cold!
I was so looking forward to meet her but was oh so nervous to!

I arrived in Amsterdam after some 4 hours of bus and train from Belgium. Less than 200 kilometers, how can it take so long? At about 11u10 am I get a call from Aioh (Aiohdmg), aaah! I'm so stressed when picking up. Oh my God, what will I say to my Thai princess? But Aioh she sounds so sweet, telling me which tram I should take to the hotel. I hear JC talking in the back hahaha. So funny, I can't wait to meet them!

So I hurry to the Movenpick, and I stand there waiting and looking for Aioh, who promised to come down to the lobby to meet. Such fancy hotel! I look around but I don't see anyone that looks like Aioh. And I didn't bring my glasses to Amsterdam so I find it pretty hard to recognize people, everyone is flue.
Aioh buying the boots :)
There are two Asian girls at the back of the lobby but as I walk closer, no, not Aioh. Then I turn round and aha! There is someone walking up to me. I try to focus on her face but it is still blur. Oh I should not stare at the person before I know for sure it is Aioh. She comes closer still though. Then I recognize her, I start to smile. She ask me "Kim?". Yeah! That's me! Haha, Aioh! So nice to meet you after all this time! So very very nice! Welcome to the freeze honey :) She looks so fancy, my Thailand sister! I should have dressed more nicely, standing there in my casual jeans. And she so neat with her skirt and high heel boots. Beautiful Aioh, finaly I get to talk to you in real life!

I don't remember if I met JC also in the lobby or in the hotel room.
The lobby I think... but I'm not sure. Aw, some hole in my memory... But I do remember he is also very nice. I feel so happy to meet him as well, now I understand why Aioh likes him so much :) He is so sweet and funny.

After saying hi we go into the town of Amsterdam, first of all to eat because we are all hungry. But also for buying new boots for Aioh, the little shopaholic ;) Then we take a walk through the city in the cold, blowing smoke into the air. No no, not hasj smoke, you silly ;) It really was so cold!

I don't remember exactly how we ended up in the Sex Museum... I think because Aioh told me there were lots of sex shops in the red light district and I responded by saying that there is a museum about it to. I read about it in the Travbuddy reviews, lol.
You see I came to A'dam prepared ;) I do remember for sure that it didn't take long to decide that we would pay a visit. So we went for it :) Probably the most funny museum I've ever visited but it was great fun. After, we went for some more shopping and then we had lunch in the hotel with the other TB's who were staying there. So much names to remember! Aw, I cannot remember names. And I'm also very shy because I am the new one while all these people already know each other from yesterday, uh-oh. I feel so stupid, yet every one is so nice. Except for Eric, making jokes about my name, grrrr ;) Yet I forgive you Eric, I took a search on YouTube and I know who Kimpossible is now, lol. Wow after meeting all these people, I look forward to tonights party really bad!

So after lunch, back at the hotel room, we will decide what to do next.
I really wanted to see the Van Gogh museum because Van Gogh is my favorite painter ever. So maybe I've been a little to pushy to Aioh and JC about it. Because after some map studying, we go the museum although I'm not sure if Aioh really feels like seeing the paintings. When we arrive it turns out the entrance fee is pretty expensive tp, aw! 12,50 EUR or so is not cheap. I feel even more guilty now, but secretly I am also glad still, to see Van Gogh. Naughty me, I can be so selfish. Once inside though I think Aioh liked the museum to. I hope she did. You know after the Sex museum maybe we need something to balance out the culture level of our Amsterdam visit ;) To say with Aioh words: Kikikikikikikikikik (^___^). Hahaaha, Aioh makes the funny noises all the time :)

After the museum, JC is tired so the poor boy went back to the hotel alone, why Aioh and I stroll around the red light district.
We wanted to do some shopping first but the shops were all closed at 6pm already... And we also ate KFC :) Then it was time to make up for the party and to await the other TB's from the hotel in the lobby. We were set on taking a taxi to the boat but everyone else wanted to walk. Hahahaha, we are so lazy! But we walked also, brrrr.

Luckily, the boat was really warm inside and so cozy! It was even more nice than I imagined. We all got a name tag (thank God, no more remembering names) and a batch to. I love the batch! Then the party started. What can I write about the party ha? I find no words to describe how much fun it was! Just perfect! At first still pretty calm and very polite, introducing to everyone and shaking hands. But then later on going completely crazy! That's because of my crazy sister Aioh and her crazy friend JC of course ;) Naughty us having a blast at the party boat.
Mmmmm, icecream :D
At 00u00 we all got up deck to watch the fireworks and to drink champagne. I got a terrible cold there! Oooooh I should have got my coat from below deck really. I froze so bad standing there, but at the time it was all ok. Yet now, two days later... oho longs are aching, fever all-day, couching,... no no no. Stupid me! Yet it was worth it, oh yes. So much fun we had on the boat watching the fireworks and singing the songs and kissing and wishing happy new year to everyone.

So sad that the boat closed at 4 am, although I was so tired I wished the party could last longer! Yet it was time for a rest to, at Aioh's hotel room. Poor Aioh, she was so tired she fell asleep standing in front of the bathroom mirror, tab water still running. How can she do that? Falling asleep while standing? Crazy crazy Aioh! Me and JC tried to stay awake until it was time for me to go home.
On January 1st there is a family party at my godmother's house, which is tradition, so I had to be home by noon. Took the first train back to Belgium at 6u40 am. So tired! Soooo tired! JC and Aioh were way to kind, walking me to the station. They really shouldn't have to, poor guys. Walking through the cold again while being so sleepy! We arrived only just in time, so we had to say goodbye so rushed. I feel so sorry for not saying proper goodbyes... I was so tired from the party and from running to the train, and there was only few minutes left for departure... All I was capable of was giving them a big hug and say thank you and then, get inside and watch myself being taken out of Amsterdam, back home, after what was the most amazing NYE I have ever had in my life.
Going to the Sexmuseum :P

Thank you everyone! Thank you so much, for organizing, for being there, for all being so kind and fun! Thanks especially JC for having me hanging around with you and sharing your beautiful Aioh with me hahaha. It was so nice to meet you, I miss you two already, so much! I hope to see you again really soon. And Aioh thanks to you the most for sharing your room and being so kind and crazy. It was so much fun hanging out with you! I have been looking forward to meeting you for so long and it was just so amazing hanging out with both of you. You are amazing people! I miss you and I owe you so much! Thanks thanks thanks. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. I'm still smiling when thinking about this meet-up, honestly, it was brilliant. My first big meet-up, but definitely, oh no, not my last!

An other kind of museum ;)
This is probably the funniest museum in Amsterdam, and also the most unusual one. I've visited some museums in my life, but never any like this :) I think it's collection is best described as an overview of sex throughout the ages and all over the globe. You'll see many pictures and cartoons, but also objects and movies to watch, all presented in a surprisingly creative way. I must say I liked the approach of the exhibition although it isn't for the prudish, but you would have been able to figure that out by now. Entrance is prohibited for anyone under 16 years old. The fee is rather cheap: 3 EUR to be precise. I guess that is about the cheapest fee you'll find for any museum in Amsterdam.

I would recommend this museum because it is a fun way to spend the time, it is pretty unique for as far as I know, and if you want to see anything like this ever in your life, there is no better place to do it than Amsterdam :) So give it a go, we really had fun here :)

See my blog for the pictures, it takes to long to upload them here.
A wonderful collection of paintings, by my favorite artist of all times
I really wanted to see the Van Gogh museum because Van Gogh is my favorite painter of all times. I really admire his work, all of it, but not so much the flowers and stuff, rather the sceneries and self portraits, which are wonderful. I don't know if the museum is that interesting for someone who doesn't like Van Gogh. Let's say, if you know his work and it doesn't interest you at all, it is obvious that this museum is not for you. But if you don't know what Van Gogh is like I think this is the perfect place to learn more about it. And if you know some but like to know more there is no better museum in the world to do so.

What I really liked here is the way the paintings are related to stories about the personal life of Van Gogh. As you might now he doesn't have the most cheerful biography, and the ups and downs of his life are pretty well reflected in his work. That is why the overview of paintings, ranged chronologically and introduced by a text about this period in Van Gogh's life, is so interesting.

I think that this museum is free of entrance with the I Amsterdam card. If you haven't got one, it is rather expensive though. We paid 12,50 EUR as an entrance fee, which I think is pretty much, as you won't spend hours and hours in this museum. It isn't small, but it definitely isn't that big either. Non the less, you'll find the largest collection of Van Gogh paintings in the world here, and some wonderful additional temporary exhibitions to.

Afterwards I was sad to read that I missed out on the exhibition "colors of the night", which will be held in February 2009. It will show some of my favorite works, like "Café du nuit" and "Starnight", that weren't exhibited when we were there now. But anyways I was so glad that I got to see this museum and all these wonderful paintings. I think I will even visit again a second time, whenever I'm in Amsterdam again :)

Hey Sal I really like the portraits and paintings of people to. It is as you said the way he painted is so emotional and vibrant. To me it really feels like these artworks are... well, almost alive. They have so much soul. Even the landscapes have. Glad you liked the museum also! It really is such a wonderful collection :)
