My son Daan (15) in Kao San road
And here I am again, back in Bangkok. Right in the middle of Kao San road to be precise. What can I say about Bangkok, everything has been told already at least a 100 times. Except perhaps that 20 years ago this street was an easy going backpackers haven. Nowadays it's everything but easy going. You love it or... ah well, never mind. If you seek for something more relaxed, just turn right at the end of where you're probably dropped off by your bus, keep Kao San in your back and walk about 200 meters, then turn left at the first intersection. The further you walk, the more relaxed it gets. Second bend leads you to an alley where you'll find the New Siam II, a to Thai standards rather expensive (850 B for a double) but very nice guesthouse with a swimmingpool. If you walk further down the alley and cross the road you'll see the New Siam Riverside. This hotel is even better (bigger pool, nicer view, better rooms, great breakfast buffet) but.... the audience is different: mainly mainstream tourists. Nevertheless, we found it really worth its higher price (around 1300 B).
