Whoever says Gouda immediately thinks of cheese!! But Gouda has much more to offer.

About Gouda

Gouda is a real old Dutch town with a virtually intact town centre.  Whoever says Gouda immediately think of cheese, but Gouda is also known of pipes, treacle waffles and earthenware, stained glass windows, a pitoresque town hall and romantic canals. Gouda has more than 300 monuments.

The 123-metre long St. Janskerk (St. John's Church) with its world-famous stained-glass windows, the fabulous Gothic Town Hall on probably one of the most beautifull squares of the Netherlands, and the Waag (Weigh House) are well worth a visit to Gouda. The Gouda museums are the Catharina Gasthuis, formerly the municipal hospital, the pipe and earthenware museum the Moriaan and the Verzetsmusem Zuid-Holland (Resistance Museum). Also worth a visit is the Cultural and Harbour Quarter with Weeshuisplein (Orphanage Square), The Catharinatuin, vcarious hofjes (almshouses) and Museumhaven Gouda (Gouda Harbour Museum).

When you are tired of strolling through shopping streets, museums and past the many monuments, you can go to one of the pavement cafes on the Market or to one of the Gouda restaurants. In the evening you can enjoy a dinner in almost every imaginable style and price class.
