A Normal Day out in Sacramento with Melanie.....Really, it was! LOL
Well, after my excitement on Thursday with my lovely work computer dying, I didn't have much I could do workwise until the IT guy called to meet up and give me a new hard drive while he tried to fix mine. I worked as much as I could and Melanie and I decided to continue on the Guy Fieri tour of Northern California and found ourselves at a place called the Squeeze Inn which is known for their burgers. Now, I would post photos of the most awesome burger in the world here but yeah, Melanie has the pics and hasn't shared yet! LOL. This place was truly a dive......it had a counter of like 12 seats and most of the line stretched outside since there was room for like 5 people inside!! HA HA. Mel and I split a burger since we had planned to do dinner that night somewhere in downtown.
OMG, two words! CHEESE SKIRT! (Review to follow).Next we had the lovely priviledge of spending 2 hours with my IT guy at one of the district offices while he reimaged a new hard drive for me. YEAH......Uhhhh, wait. Nooooooooo. Great, my original hard drive....say bye bye. Yeah, much of my stuff - *poof* gone. Lovely. So, while we were sitting there, Melanie utilized the opportunity to put her head down and take a nap! LOL. Melissa919 and Kristy would be impressed...if only their students would settle down and take such good naps! I spent the time answering text messages from various peeps that Mel sent the burger pic to at lunch. And no, Mel didn't snore or drool!! LOL.
Next, it was time for Melanie's daily dessert stop.
What time was it?!?! Cupcake time!! We headed to the Cupcake Craving bakery I previously reviewed so she could check out their sugar free options. Not me, I decided to be bad, very bad.....Lemon Meringue baby! LOL. Melanie got the sugar free chocolate. Since there were no places to sit, we took them to go and headed downtown to check things out. WOW...felt like Vegas once again. It was about 106 degrees out and we plopped down at a picnic table in Old Town Sac (after spotting a fro yo place) and devoured our sweet treats. We spotted several cool stores in the nearby vicinity so we wandered around - one was this awesome candy shop (see accompanying pics...OMG did they have incredible brittle offerings).
We also stopped in the Hollywood memoribilia store and Melanie found all her Star Wars stuff so she was in heaven. I hung out in the Disney room and drooled at all the stuff I couldn't afford but still wanted to buy! LOL. We took a few photos for our fellow TB friends - Angel's (Knead2Travel) photo from Queen Mary with me the weekend before and for our dear Tim (TYoungTX) - here's the only snake you will see me holding!! HA HA.Next, it was off to the awesome looking costume shop we parked by. But wait, what's this?!?! Buffalo Bob's - a Buffalo and ice cream...Julie (Pinchora) is a huge buffalo wing and ice cream fan.....we thought this was all too fitting. Of course, what's a bull statue picture without Melanie and I trying to climb the bull.
Actually, I believe it was a bit more sexual in nature but we will keep it "g" rated! :-) Mel has those pics so I will update when I get them! LOL. Now, we are off to the costume store. OMG, this was the best store I've been in. High end costumes, not the cheap stuff in bags you find in usual places. The store was 3 stories and had everything themed and anything you could think of - along with shoes! Stillettos, boots, crazy stuff, whatever. I ended up buying the cutest pair of black and white retro shoes that I can use for work and going out! Whoo Hoo!We left the store and were going to head to shop for an outfit for going out that night and I go to get in the car, and WTF?!?! What is on my windshield.
...a parking ticket! Uuuuuugh. I thought we parked in two hour parking but there were meters hidden behind the post. Grrrrrrrrrrr. $30 for expired meter parking! Oh well, nothing I can do now. As we are headed to the shopping center, I mistakenly mention the place we are going is where the frozen yogurt place is! Uh oh, Melanie is already ready for fro yo even though we finished cupcakes like two hours ago! LOL.We stop at the frozen yogurt place, Big Spoon, and OMG...this was the BEST place ever. They had a candy WALL. Yes, wall. Sugar free yogurt options - absolutely delicious. Sugar free and fat free - can't go wrong there! Of course, adding things like cheesecake bites somewhat negate the healthier yogurt but it's all about balance! Mel has decided this is the best frozen yogurt she's had! *YEAH* My master plan to subconsciously get her to move to Northern Cali is working.
:-)After shopping and buying lots of things neither of us would wear that night, we head back to my house and realize we are obviously not going out to dinner anywhere as we are full and getting tired from being out all afternoon. We hurry and shower, and head out, planning to go dancing. We end up scraping the idea and meet up with one of my friends, Rick, at a local popular hang out, G.V. Hurley's and watch the pretty people. Rick pointed out before we got there that Melanie and I would fit right in being all dressed up, even though he was in shorts and flip flops...hmmm. Sure enough, we get there - all the women are dressed like a Vegas club scene and the men are in tshirts and shorts. We hang out for a bit and grab a late night snack, which was ok but not fabulous, and head to another place around the corner to see what's happening there.
It was dead and we were tired so we stayed for one drink and decided to call it a night. On our way back to Rick's house to drop him off, we stop at what appears to be a local legend - haunted house! OMG, I had heard there was a haunted house in Sacramento but never knew where it was. This place was beyond creepy and apparently vacant for years. We ran into some other people walking their dog who talked to us about the place and there was a faint light, somewhat like a TV reflection on upstairs which we were told was the first time ever. There is a basement that has restricted visibility and rumors that people died down there. There is a lion head on the eaves that has eyes that pretty much follow you back and forth.
Sooooo eerie! Have to research this place now and see what I find! After that, we headed home and went straight to bed as we had to be up early for our long drive down to Milpitas to meet Julz' and Mel's cousin for dim sum!I hop into bed...just about to fall asleep when my phone rings! It's Melanie...calling me from the other room! LOL. Somehow she forgot her camera battery charger (what the heck?!?!) and was stressing out that she wouldn't be able to take pics in San Francisco...HA HA. Ok, sleepy time and we will deal with it in the morning! :-)

Known for their incredible burgers, they command some seriously long waits, especially since the show aired. My friends have seen lines as long as 45 minutes long so I recommend calling your order in if you plan to stop by!
Melanie and I had to give it a try on our Guy Fieri foodie tour and fortunately, we hit it at the right time as there was only about 5-6 people ahead of us in line. Parking is very minimal here and do NOT park in neighboring lots, they will tow. There are about 5 spots out front and a few in the back. Keep driving around and something will open up - we ended up right in front after a couple loops around the area.
The Squeeze Inn is the true epitome of a dive! Counter seating only and I think my master bedroom may be bigger but it's very warm and inviting with about 12 seats available and orders taken over the seats when you first walk in. There are a few tables outside in the back so make sure to send someone in your party out to scope them out while you stand in line!
We had read online they were known for their cheeseburgers and the cheese skirt. What the heck is a cheese skirt you ask? Imagine oodles of grated cheese cooking over the burgers which get crispy and cut into large squares over the burger. Talk about heaven! WOW...the crispy greasy cheese is a great compliment on the burger and makes you want more. Melanie and I split the "Squeeze with Cheese" ($5.80) and glad we did. It is about 1/3 lb and half was perfect for me. Their fries looked incredible - huge portions with skins still on. Definitely looking forward to going back again for another cheese skirt! YUM!
