Mel and I driving in SF
OMG....we get on the road from Milpitas and try to time it to meet Julz headed into San Francisco. Trino is following behind us and of course traffic sucks royally headed in. We take a different route I have never gone which is ok as it's the scenic route for Melanie but, it also takes you literally right by AT&T Park - home of the SF Giants. NICE.....not. Why I didn't think to use the child lock option on the window I don't know but too late - Mel rolls down the window and is hanging out screaming "SF sucks! Giants suck! Go Dodgers!" All the while, I am like great, "we are going to get shot. Thank you Melanie!". LOL
After what seems like an hour, we get to the Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39 area and in the parking structure although there isn't a spot available if your life depended on it.
Dope gangstas take one
I look behind me and poof, Trino is gone. Uh oh!! Oh no, he scored a parking spot behind me and texted me to taunt! LOL. We got up to the nosebleed section and saw Julz walking through as well. I could not get over how crowded it was - I've been down several times on Saturday and it was NEVER this bad.
First order of business since we were on the road for so long.....bathroom! And I know the women's restrooms there always have lines...about 20-30 deep today it seems. Somehow we lose Melanie when we get out and she's not answering her texts. Hmmm, I look at the various shops around us - I narrow it down. 50/50 chance she's either in Dreyer's Ice Cream or the sports shop next door. I find her chatting up the clerk at the sports store about her precious LA teams! Next we find an ATM, and Julz sends her nephew and his friend off to go be teenage boys while we go off and act mature of course! HA HA.
C'mon Mel..the shrimp is not that bad!
Mel spots the hat store....OMG - Angel (Knead2travel) would be in HEAVEN. Of course many goofy pics ensue with the hats and I quickly figure out Trino sooooooooooooo fits in our little group. He's just as silly and deranged as we tend to be! And an added bonus, he likes wine. My heart be still! :-) We wander around a few more shops and head into Bubba Gump's for a little fun. Of course, we find some great shrimp stuffies to taunt Melanie with since she's allergic to shrimp! Melanie finds a GREAT sign for her Bad Spellers TB group. What a fun place! Next it was off to the wine store for Trino and I. OMG, was I in heaven. And Will (w_clemmons) if only he was there......!!! I ended up buying two trivets from his "favorite" artist, Michael Godard.
Aren't we a great looking group!?!?
Godard is one of my favorite artists and he is known for his crazy olive and martini Vegas style paintings (have review on his gallery when I met him). Will was with me last year when we went to an event at his gallery and didn't quite understand the hype! LOL. No accounting for some peoples' taste! HA HA. Next we wandered into the Hollywood store and OMG...they had a sign that said Queen parking. Melanie soooo needs that for her house! I found a Drama Queen one for me and Lisa (Lisabrook21) - reminders of our old days in the Vegas office with our "drama mafia" meetings! :D
Next it was off to see the sights and freeze our bums off outside! Melanie is looking off towards the East Bay and says, "WOW, I can't see the Golden Gate bridge" and I point out, "That's because it's over there".
Oh isn't this fitting...LOL
HA HA. We stay there for awhile and take some goofy photos - some of which came out pretty awesome...especially some great shots of Trino misbehaving! We then wandered off to the BAB's favorite spot....the California Sea Lions. As we are walking over, the apparent sea lion elitist says, "These sea lions are not cool. The ones in the Galapagos are much better." Gee thanks Melanie! Still can't believe how packed it was for such an ugly day out. It was so foggy that you couldn't even see the Golden Gate bridge itself at one point.
Well, since we were in the $40 parking lot, we decided to go grab a quick bite at one of the restaurants that validates and opted for a beach bar type atmosphere since it was not totally seafood centric.
LOL! Nice Trino!
(Julz is a non seafood person). It was pretty crowded but we did get a table inside which was nice so my toes warmed up a bit! Had a nice margarita and some unhealthy nachos to tide me over until we head up to Ghiradelli Square for Kara's cupcakes! :D We meet back up with Julz's nephew and get ready to head out. Of course, bathroom break before we go and OMG...it was a co-ed bathroom! I came out of my stall to find Trino waiting there in line! HA HA. We decided to get a pic of Trino as he came out - how could I forget he was in my stall...when we thought it was him coming out, Mel had her camera poised and voila, some strange man became the subject matter of it! HA HA. He was a great sport and posed for us, laughing himself! Oooops! Trino came out then and we were able to regain our composure and snap a couple quick shots!
As we were headed out we realized it was already late.
After our Kara's cupcakes...Mmmmmmm
.OMG! Kara's Cupcakes was going to be closing soon! Julz took off walking rather fast and I was trying to keep up. Everyone else kept lagging behind and by the time we got up near Ghiradelli Square, we turned around to find no one! LOL. Finally they caught up to us and we got to the store and yikes..not many cupcakes left! Of course, no red velvet! I wanted to try something new so I tried the Fleur De Sel which is a chocolate cupcake with caramel filling, ganache frosting and fleur de sel. There is obviously sea salt in the cupcake and although that didn't bother me, this particular one broke apart and was just almost dried out a bit. It was my least favorite cupcake from there so far! I love my Cupcake Craving here in Sacramento
! LOL Since Kara's didn't have sugar free options, she was going back to Ben and Jerry's for her dessert fix.
Imitating the Segways! LOL
Trino had never been to the Buena Vista for Irish coffee but had been wanting to try it so we stopped in there on the way back, figuring we'd have a quick drink and meet the crew back down at Ben and Jerry's. Trino and I ended up at a table with 3 women and a guy who were hilarious! They were visiting San Francisco from various parts of the country for work training and were enjoying their one free night in the City! We took some great photos with them and decided to do the froth mustache when poor Trino's camera landed in what looked like the petrified remains of a bread pudding! Uuuuh, apparently he didn't clean the lens and we have a nice fuzzy spot in our photo! LOL.
Hard to believe it was already 10pm and the wax museum was already closed.
Our Charlies Angel pose
Rats! Ripley's was open so we decided to check it out...why not? OMG, what a fun time. We managed to spend two hours in there and close the place down! We learned that we were among celebrities, Julz is one of the rare ones in the world that can touch her tongue to her nose (says 1 in 100 people can do it!) I had never been to Ripley's Believe it or Not museum and it was rather interesting to see some of the crazy things and videos they showed. We found an awesome kaleidoscope and took some amazing pics of our shadows. We rock! LOL.
So, now it's midnight and time to turn into pumpkins....Mel and I had to drive back to Sacramento and get some sleep as we had a long day planned of sightseeing in wine country and trying more Guy Fieri places so we said our goodbyes and headed home.
Such men I swear! LOL
Mel was supposed to help keep me awake on the way home....hmmm, we hadn't even hit the Bay Bridge downtown and sleeping beauty was out like a light! LOL. She'd bolt up periodically and rub my arm, "Are you ok? You doing ok?" And then went right back to sleep. HA HA.
Awww, what a fun day! I miss Julz and it was sooo awesome meeting Trino. I can't wait to drag him to wine country with me and go exploring. Miss you guys already!!!
