Last week of cycling

After my rest in Gisborne I took the bus to Palmerstone North with the intension to cycle from there to Wanganui which would have been about 90km! However, it was again the wind that troubled me and after riding 50km against it I was in a terrible mess!!! I almost cried the whole way. It was just impossible to ride. I stayed in the lowest or second lowest gear all the time! Luckily, I stopped at an intersection where I could turn right and ride to a town where the intercity bus stopped. I took me no time to decided to go there and take the bus to Wanganui!

In Wanganui I stayed at a really nice backpackers and had a good time with another Swiss girl. She studied English in Nelson!!

After two days in Wanganui, I decided to cycle on and see how far I get.

I stopped after 50km and then took the bus to New Plymouth. My legs just didn't work anymore and metally I was not really strong anymore as well.  So I decided to stay in New Plymouth for a couple of days and the ride on to Mokau.

The two days in New Plymouth were lovely. The weather was great, I stayed at a really nice backpackers and I did some walks through beautiful parks and along the coast. Mount Taranaki showed himself as well which was quite stunning!

The first few kilometers of the ride to Mokau was quite enjoyable although I had a light breeze....of course against me..... After riding about 60km there was a hill infront of me. I was aware of that hill and I really thought I could cycle up. But I was physically and metally to weak to do it and was soon pushing my bike up the hill.

After walking up about 10 minutes a woman Maori roadworker stopped and asked if I would like a lift up to the top of the hill......well....I really couldn't turn down that over. So we loaded my bike onto the truck and up we went......she then told me that she was on the way to Mokau. Well, I was going to Mokau as well......she was really really kind and took me all the way to Mokau.....I felt a bit like a looser but......hey, I've already ridden 800km over the last past 3 weeks so who cares.....

Mokau is a tiny little village with a long beautiful black sandy beach! I walked on the beach and just relaxed.

The next day, I took the bus to Hamilton. From there I originally wanted to ride to Raglan. But I realised that I was another 48km to Raglan and that there would be quite steep hills to get over.

......I decided to take the bus...... Well, after waiting 3 hours for the bus to come the bus driver told me that I couldn't take the bike with me! I was sooooooo angry and within 2 minutes I decided to go back to Auckland straight away!

Well, that's where my cycling adventure ended. I returned my bike today and was acutally a bit sad! I really enjoyed cycling through a part of New Zealand sooooo much and I surely will take up cycling back home!!!

I learned a lot from cycling such as......you can do it if you really want!!!!! Those of you who know me, know I am not the fittest and thinnest person. That was always a reason why I thought I couldn't do some sort of thing like this. But fact is, if you really want to do something, no matter what, you can do it! You just have to try and say to yourself that you are able to do it!
