First 3 days of cycling
Some of you may know that I've decided to cycle a part of the North Island. I just needed a challenge and I thought this was perfect for me as I want to get fit and loose weight as well....
So I hired a really good bike including panniers and helmet in Auckland for 5 weeks for only 250dollars....that's a bargain.....
As I didn't want to risk cycling in and around Auckland, I took the bus to Thames. On Sunday I made my way up to Coromandel Town. The first 30 km were quite an easy drive and a nice one as well. I was all along the coast! But then the hills came. My target was to cycle up and not have to push the bike but my legs just gave up and I had to push my bike all the way up. I was rewarded by a beautiful few all over the coast and the little islands! Wow!! 4 hours later I was in Coromandel town and instead of resting I went for an hours walk with fews over Coromandel Town and its harbour.
The next day started with a ascent to 370m! It was really really hard but I did it and again had a stunning few over the whole coastline and what's more, if you're going up a hill it always goes down again :-) After 4 hours and about 4 terrible hills I arrived in Whitianga just the same time as my friend Gisela who came by bus. We then checked in our room and rested! In the evening, we went for a walk on the beach and found some beautiful, big shells!
On Tuesday, we went on a bus tour to the Hot Water Beach and Cathedrale Cove. Hot Water Beach was crowded and didn't impress me much. But Cathedrale Cove was quite amazing. After we came back to our backpackers a German couple asked me if I'd like to fly with them. They've booked a scenic flight and needed a third person.
It was only 25dollars and so I couldn't say no! It was soooo much fun because I sat next to the pilot and he'd let me fly for about 5 minutes!!!! That was an experience I'll never forget!!!!Today, I only did about 40 km and arrived in Tairua within 2 1/2 hours. It was a really really nice ride and not to bad with the hills. I only had to push my bike one time for about 5 minutes. I think my fitness already improved a bit and I really had so much fun today. Actually, I first wanted to ride on but I'd had to cycle for another 30-40km which is a bit to much for me....
It is such a good experience and I don't regret at all that I'm doing this!!
