Lapping up the NJ Shores
After highly inconvinient flights to and fro across the country, from North Carolina to Seattle, and back from Seattle to New Jersey, here I am in WildWood, NJ, to continue the beach survey to find the best beaches in the nation, from California to the East Coast. After checking out the sun n'sand at NJ, I plan to spend a couple of days in New York City and then continue on to Boston.
The Seattle detour was not only inconvinient, but also wasted. The meeting didb't go off as planned, and my boss is having raging fits about my cross-country flights, what with the price of fuel and all. So when you're all bummed out, what do you do? You head for the beach, kick back with a cold beer, and let the world pass you by. Which is exactly what I had planned for Wildwood, one of the cleanest and best and powdery white sandy beaches you'll ever see anywhere in the nation.
In addition to a lotta titles like best beach for singles (and families, sports, cleanliness, etc), the best thing about Wildwood is that the darn beach gets bigger and bigger. Kinda reverse-erosion or something like that. Then there's Morey's Piers, which is well... Huge. Its got well over a 100 rides and attractions, which includes two waterparks, roller-coasters and stuff. Which would also explain the beach's popularity among family travelers. There's all kinds of contests and sports activities in progress all the time, including surfing, volleyball and monster truck rallies. This is the kind of beach where I fit right in.
You hit the waves with your surfboard early in the morning, and then snooze your head off during the day , wake up in the late 'noon, play some volleyball to pump up the adrenalin, and then let the beer and the concerts take care of things after the sun goes down. Perfect day and perfect way to forget that your boss is one inch away from canning your sorry-ass bum.
Except for the beachfront resorts and hotels and the attendant commercialization, the rest of it is just about pitch-perfect. Still got 9 other beaches to check out, and this time, I'm taking it slowly. No hurry, and there's NYC and Boston to come for afters. There'll be a reckoning to come when I get back to the office, but then, that's all the more reason to dawdle some more...
