Buh-Bye San Diego
Previous post, I said was taking a Busman's holiday, starting from San Diego, to rate the beaches. Well, I've seen it, 'done' the beaches and I'm off to Northern California for more beachin'. Can't really say anything about San Diego's beaches right now, as far as national standing is concerned, but what I can do is expound on how they rack up against each other.
But before that, allow me to congratulate and thank San Diego for offering excellent hospitality. San Diego hotels are top-notch, and the nightlife is a notch above top-notch. In fact, more than a few notches above. Gaslamp Quarter is rocking, PETCO Park is huuuge, and the rest of the things to do in San Diego aren't too shabby either. Don't think there's anything like this outside Vegas and Miami. All said and done, San Diego vacations (for adults) are very much an 'in' thing now.
Getting back to the beaches, Coronado Beach was magnificient - Accessible, clean, friendly and wide open. Lots of stuff to do, in addition to lazing around. The Hotel del Coronado is as awesome as it looked in the pictures, the pier is a great place to just hang out, Ferry Landing Place is well worth spending some time and the Navy Seals are uber-cool. Its a total beach experince, as opposed to just plopping down on the sand, rubbing shoulders with strangers and hoping to avoid screaming kids.
If Coronado is good on an overall scale, Imperial Beach tips the scales for sheer beauty. The view of San Diego and the City skyline in the late evenings is simply too ethereal to describe. Not sure yet which one of these I want to rate as best in San Diego, but has to be one of these two. Also spent some time poking around Black's Beach. Nothing much to say, except that its darn hard to get to the beach. Didn't say any skinny-dippers and frankly, it's just another beach, despite all the flap about this being a 'clothing-optional' beach.
Anyways, stay tuned for the Northern California updates. Starting off with Point Reyes National Seashore, but I'll be happy to go anywhere the tide takes me to.
