Gili Trawangan Lombok Indonesia
As I have read a lot of good things about the snorkelling in Gili Trawangan and as we were not in August or New Year,I decided to stay some
days in Villa Ombak,"the best hotel of the island",which is no value for money.
The snorkelling there was average because of the windy weather and dead corals.
We had good meals at the friendly restaurant Scallywags close to Villa Ombak( which seemed overpriced ,average and not so friendly).
I was a bit disappointed by Gili Tralala because of the snorkelling and people seem there ,not so friendly than in other place in Lombok!
We did an halfday tour to Gili Meno, the quietest and smallest of the three Gili's which provides spectacular dive sites,a salt lake,a bird museum and sometimes some mosquitoes!
In my opinion ,Gili Trawangan is overrated, yes, you have crystal water, great views, magic mushrooms!,but also a smelly and dirty main street, dead corals...
Then we stayed 3 nights in SENGGIGI in the Holiday resort Lombok, ex Holiday Inn(not a boutique hotel:). We had 1 lunch and 2 dinners in the nice restaurant SQUARE which offers the Balinese chef Eka Arsanna 's great food.

We stayed 3 nights at a "Deluxe"Lumbung hut built to the traditional Sasak architecture, which consists of an upper floor bedroom and a large terrace and underneath an open air living room with a bale and the bathroom.
The room is small, and its linen a bit worn out,no sound proof.
As the bathroom is downstairs, climbing up and down the tiny stairs to take a pee or a shower could be very dangerous, particularly in the middle of the night, after few Bintang. The shower delivers salt water and you have to use a mandi of fresh water(bucket)to rinse. The toilet facilities seem to be a bit worn out.
The pool seems huge on their Internet site, but was overcrowded during our stay, invaded in particular by French noisy nkids(it was schoolholidays in France and unfortunately these bloody people had invaded Gili Tralala!).
I'm not good-faith because people don't really need a pool in Gili Trawangan!
The beach in front of the resort is a bit littered with sharp coral(people have to wear reef shoes) and had few sunbeds, but you can lounge on the beachrestaurant's chairs!
As the resort is building new cottages at the left hand side, people will be woken up by the noise of the construction,we were on the right one:)
The breakfast was OK,the food seems pricey and the restaurant affected, not very friendly,we went for lunch and dinner at the Scallywags nearby.
Last but not the least, the staff is not as nice as in other Indonesian place.
In fact the resort is quite OK but overpriced(for the country!)
I heard good things on the Beach house hotel....
