Land of my people...
Just driving back to Kayenta and then from there head to Canyon De Chelly, the front desk agent said about 2 hours... it ended up being about a half and a half .. = )   on the way, there were houses and it was nice to look at and actually show Liz how we lived... its desolate, i mean not alot of amenities - we saw what seemed like a 3 car gararge made out of like tree branches, sure gave us a good laugh...!!  It was very nice quiet drive.  We sure did learn alot about one another...
When we arrived to Canyon De Chelly we learned that there is a north and south... me being an idiot didn't remember which way to go... so we took the north path...  we drove a few miles and stopped at a few over look points.. then we decided to head to the south side. So we had to backtracked, but so worth it...  but it was getting cold and late... our plan was to drive back to the Grand Canyon which was about 5 hours away....
There were a few trails that could of been hiked, it was late and there was a sign that recommended a few hours since it was a 3 mile hike round trip... we passed and settled for "NEXT TIME"...
