Chronicles of my first trip abroad.

Ibiza July 12-15, 2008

Hmmm, Ibiza.  Let me start with the disclaimer that I have wanted to go to Ibiza for years.  House music, beaches, hedonists…what is not to like?  But maybe this was my downfall.  I won’t say I didn’t have a good time there, but I think I was expecting more.  The beach was beautiful, of course.  The clubs were fun….but honestly not exactly more impressive than places I have been in Las Vegas or New York.  Don’t get me wrong, you would never be able to find as impressive a line-up of DJs in one single place over a 3 month period, but with the price of admission you can probably only afford a few shows anyway.

All in all, I found my stay in Ibiza relaxing….which isn’t exactly how I had expected it to be.

More than just a place to lay your head
The Fiesta Club Playa D’en Bossa is an ideal spot for the adult Ibiza traveler looking for something more than just a place to sleep off a hangover. The resort caters specifically to adult travelers (few children present) and attempts to carry the Ibiza party vibe through the daylight hours. The resort employs an activities staff of approximately 10 people (all of whom are able to speak at least English, Spanish, German, Italian, and French) who will organize sports and contests during the day and evening shows. The resort has a large pool and is situated right on the beach (chairs are free by the pool, but are charged for on the beach). The pool was large and very busy most of the day, though not over-crowded. Most of the staff speaks English and the desk staff was relatively helpful as far as area information and transportation. The resort is across the street from Space Nightclub, which has caused other guests to complain about noise, but I never noticed any. The restaurant was buffet-style and had a decent selection of international foods, though I would have hoped for a bit more Spanish food. The resort also has an optional all-inclusive plan for those guests staying at least 7 days, and would definitely be advantageous.
Rooms are spacious (2 twin beds and 2 large sofas could easily sleep 4) and the bathrooms are newly renovated. The air conditioning is more than sufficient and the rooms include a balcony (however, this also seemed to mean the rooms had ants). Rooms are also equipped with TVs, hairdryers and a safe (for a charge). WiFi is not available, but computers are available in the lobby for a charge, but do not have printers.
