Local newspaper with advice on coping with the heat.

The heat today was huge, over 40 and we had to be careful as we walked around.

We walked slowly to the bus station to get the tickets for the trip to Santiago this weekend.  After buying the bus tickets for this weekends trip to santiago, my classmate and I went to the Cafe y Te place which has air-conditioning and had a lovely cup of herbal tea -which was very refreshing.  Always have the fruits of the forest which has strong berry flavours and is slightly sweet.

On days like this at 11 at night while walking I sat on a stone bench and it almost burnt my bum.  That hot and it will get hotter this week until Thursday.

The local newspaper has run an article on the heat and letting people know how to look after themselves - much of it commonsense.

Hot stone seats and cooling fountains

Avoid going out of the house during the middle of the day (from 12 to 6)

Drink more liquids before you get thirsty

Avoid eating large amounts of food instead less and more times during the day

Don't drink hot liquids

Reduce physical activity

Rest frequently in the shade

Wear natural fabric in light shades

Stay in ventilated areas and use the rooms in the house that are coolest

During the day lower curtains in the house and close the windows and then open them at night

Refrigerate food

Good common sense!

My family has changed it style of food since the hot weather came.  There is less hot food and more salads with only cold things in it like cucumber tuna, lettuce.  Luz says she does this to help cool us all down.
