Juneau, the experience of a lifetime

After what seemed like forever and a day we finally touched down at the Juneau airport around 10:30 Friday night only to be greeted by the seasonal mist that made our trip the third wettest July in Juneau history. Apparently our travels were destined to set records throughout with Oklahoma setting records as one of the hottest months (105-107 degrees), and Juneau being the complete opposite with the third wettest, and one of the coldest months (which was a major relief) in the annals of Juneau lore.

After experiencing our first 27 hour day (3 hour time change) taking us from Dallas, to Seattle, and then over to the Alaskan capitol we left the airport after being picked up by a friend (who graciously surrendered her car for our disposal during our stay, as well as her hospitality) and decided we should stop off and visit Bullwinkle's Pizza Parlor, one of the better know pizza haunts in Juneau.  This was the first pizza place that I have ever been in that included popcorn as part of the menu. People can get a free bag of popcorn while waiting for their pizza, which turned out to be a plus for our small threesome as we confiscated two bags which kept us going for the entire trip.

Bullwinkle's first open their doors as part of the Mendanhall Mall back in 1980 but has became a mainstay of the town with it's first store in 1973. Free popcorn was the main attraction even back then and has been a staple ever since. After filling up with pizza (and popcorn) it was time to call it a night so we could get ready to hit the ground running bright (only a figurative term) and early Saturday morning.
