beach at varna.....
after a day in bucharest, we decided to leave romania and head down to the black sea coast of bulgaria to a town called varna. we thought we could catch a quick overnight train that would take 6 hours, but soon discovered the train we were on terminated at the border town of russe. the train ride up to that point was amazing, we crossed the border from romania to bulgaria through the danube delta and crossed this never ending bridge which spanned the danube. crossing the danube at about 11:00 at night and knowing once you were on the other side you were in an entirely different country was a surreal expereince.

after a night stay in russe, we boardered another train headed to varna. our plans were only to stay in varna for two nights, but that quickly turned into five.
club on the beach....
varna is a destination for a number of northern europeans summer holidays. the hostel we were staying at had 8 people from Holland, 4 from Switzerland and couple from Austria. being a holiday destination, varna proved to be a interesting time. the town of varna itself is set on the black sea and has a huge span of beach which is the location for a number of clubs and bars, which stay open till 6 am. the party scene here is one that never ends and is a ton of fun. golden sands which is a town just north of varna is a more exclusive town that caters to mostly german, scandanavian and other northern european tourists. the town is filled with german karoke bars and scandanivan clubs. i must admit it was a bit bizarre that i was in bulgaria, but encountering and hanging out with very few bulgarians. it was a blast though, i met some really great people learned some swiss german and have memories that i will never forget. and a promise of an a accordion song that is written just for me, who could ask for more.

this part of my trip has made me realize that its more the people you meet along your journey that make your travels a true adventure. it is these encounters that expose you to other cultures and people and open doors that you never knew exsisted. it was hard to say goodbye, but after five nights of clubbing....my body need a rest and i had to start making my way to west to croatia.
