This blog reviews the short trips I do in my country, France. It is not the story of one trip but several stories of different destinations (same colour, same trip :p)

Marine graveyard of Kerhervy at low tide

The tradition says that destroy or sink a boat brings misfortune that's why, in some places, abandoned boats retire on the coast, waiting for their dying out, sinking in the mud while time goes on.

Located in the estuary of the Blavet, the marine graveyard of Kerhervy houses dozen of boats, mainly fishing boats. The oldest ones have been there since 1920 and the latest arrived there in 2001 after a big storm.

Tides, lights, nature, birds and of course the boats are all actors of the landscape and give the place a very peculiar atmosphere.

It is not an example for ecology, though.

I am not sure that all boats there were only made of wood and iron... But I know Britons love their region and keep it clean and pretty :)

Pont du Bonhomme
Pont du Bonhomme
What about the lady? ;)
"Pont du bonhomme" means bridge of the fellow. Built in 1904, there is only two pillars of stones left: one has a fellow on top of it, the other one in front of it has a woman.

It spans the Blavet to link the towns of Lanester and Kervignac. Another parallel bridge just near it has been built. From there, there is a great view of the Blavet valley and the marine graveyard of Lanester.
