I ended up staying in Haifa for Yom Kippur and having a break fast dinner with a bunch of friends because most people ended up staying at the University... I even managed to make Matzo Ball soup-- I was quite proud of myself... especially considering the state of my so called kitchen. We walked down to a nearby synagogue for services… but I was pretty disappointed in it. It’s a very new temple so I think they are still in the midst of adjusting… but even the parts of the service that I could follow were drowned out by the Rabbis screeching singing voice.
After the Holiday, I headed to Tiberius with a few friends to do a bit of camping by the Kinnaret (Israel’s main water source). We didn’t get to see much of the city of Tiberius but what we got to was quite dingy and dirty… however the campsite was the complete opposite. We were basically the only tent set up the first night so it was completely empty. Every day we spent swimming in the fresh water and then we’d make a fire or Bar-b-que at night and relax. Today my friend tried cooking a bunch of Oysters that we kept finding in the sand… everyone else was a bit skeptical about her eating something we’d found—considering noone else seemed interested in the Oysters… but my friend has survived thus far… so I think she’s in the clear.
Well… that’s been the highlights from the past week and I’m heading to hike Masada and camp at the Dead Sea tomorrow for a couple days… so I’ll try to get something else up here afterwards.
