Golden Gate Canyon Park is located about 30 miles west of Denver outside of Golden, Colorado. The park offers a variety of activities year-round. We went to spend a day hiking the trails. The winds were strong making the hike a bit more difficult than it should have been. It was also very cold, much colder than at our home in Lakewood. If you visit, prepare for chiller temps in the winter no matter the temperature in Denver. Overall, for a relaxing day outdoors, this was a good pick.
There are 35 miles of hiking on 15 or so trails throughout the part. They range from short loops to day hikes along the Continental Divide. Camping is available in the park with both cabins and camp-sites as options. Mountain bikers will most likely revel in all the trails that are bike accessible. Fishing, controlled hunting, picnicking, rock climbing, and horseback riding are all available during the summer months. During the winter, you can choose from cross-country skiing, ice fishing, ice skating, sledding, snowshoeing, and snow tubing. Of course, hiking and camping can be done year-round.
