Both of us wake up in our warm sleeping bags ... nose out side the bag .. brrr cold out!
The tent is quiet now .... the wind has dropped but so has the temperature....
But my bladder is telling me come on get up ...... ok ok .......Getting dressed quickly I pull on my jacket and boots before unzipping the tent door and stepping out into ....... what the hell ..... snow!
The hills and ground around me are white.... dark clouds skirt the land .... snow is still falling .... stinging my face ......
The walk to the toilet stretches muscles .... a reminder of yesterdays walk!
Back to the tent and I fill the kettle with water .....
There is a nice log cabin next to us .... its used for cooking and eating in bad weather ...as the campsite was empty Yara and Ivan had used it to sleep in .
Ivan slept well ... hes used to the cold being a mountaineer and trail bike rider ... even so we both note the steaming breaths we leave in the cold!
Ling arrives ... Coffee!!!!!!!! OK got it!
The small cafetiere we brought with us is very useful... very soon we have a hot coffee inside and some bacon sandwiches.....
and start planning the day .....
we are heading to Myvatan ... the plan is to take the day easy .... fill up on supplies, fuel and grab a night in a comfortable bed ... a bath and more important a visit to the hot springs!
After a slow start I get some fuel from the filling station which looks more like a garden shed .
We head up the A1 again toward Myvatan and take a detour to the F862 and head to the huge waterfall at Dettifoss. again this is a 4x4 only track sorry!
We run into more snow .... over the high ground ..... at Dettifoss its cold, snowy ... wet ! What a beautiful water fall ... well worth seeing that water pounding over the edge of that cliff. Awesome.
Heading north we drop down into Myvatan...... find a lovely guest house... a bath... some hot food and a swim at the hot spring.
Relaxed we are ready for the next step in the journey ... due to the weather we head south ... our ham radio contact in Reyjkavik says its sunny and warm ..... lets go!
