This was off the main road and was famous for its small church and fjörd lake.
As we headed out the village anc climbed the steep hill I noticed a guy in an electric wheel chair heading out the village .... in the middle of the road and completely oblivious to any traffic! Where was he going .. how far would he get ...... would het get back before he ran out of battery! Strange but funny enough we saw him the next day miles from the village so he really must get along way on his little truck ... but man .. in the middle of the road .... crazy!
Saksun lies in the bottom of what used to be an inlet of the sea, surrounded by high mountains.
The inlet formed a good deep natural harbour, until a storm blocked the inlet with sand.
This caused the river that used to run into the inlet to form a freshwater lake where the inlet used to be.
The lake is quite shallow at the edges and after parking and having a quick snack we headed onto the shallow edge to take some fotos.
Climbing over the small hills we sat in the sun for a while until 2 people start yelling at us from the river bank opposite ... Ivan and Yara!!!
They come round across the small bridge and say hello .... smiling and exchanging greetings we wander back to the car park and grab some tea together .... they are on their second trip here so its not so exciting for them .. but Ivan is still snapping away with his cameras :)
We leave them to the church and head further out towards Mykines - very famous for the birds on its high cliffs.
The afternoon is warm and sunny - the sea calm and the skies blue .. perfect!
