This years expedition took me north.. to the islands of the Faroes via Denmark, then onto the land of fire and ice.... Iceland. A 3 week tour covering 6000km across some spectacular scenery and sometimes exciting travel. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did driving it!

Island Hopping

jumping round the islands
Arriving early in the morning we see the mountains of the Faroes after breakfast .... its sunny ... cool and the wind has dropped

The sea is calmer now ... Ling is even feeling better ..... breakfast was enjoyable and she found her appetite again .. great .. I was begining to think I made a bad mistake making her come on the ship .. I didnt mean for her to feel unwell  :(

We take a few photos as the ship approachs Törshaven .....

As the ship docks I head down to the get the Landie ... again Ling as to go off via foot.

We pass through customs with out even a glance .. dry land again.

We had decided to first catch some time and find a supermarket and get the fresh food we needed to top the fridge up and then head right to the top of the island to a small village called Eidi .
tea! hmmm!
.. everyone was off the ferry so the first camp sites are bound to be busy.

So after a quick whizz round the super market we head north.....

The island roads are mostly good and easy to drive ... plenty of fuel stations ... but watch out for the expensive road tunnels .. you have to buy the tolls at the garages ... they are pretty impressive tunnels though .. but we thought ridiculous expensive ....

We had planned to use a small campsite we had the travel guide but arriving at the tiny village after driving down the single track road we could not see any sign for the site.

We found the house number and found it to be a bistro ... the girl smiled when I asked about the camping and she pointed to a new building being erected in the back .. that was the camping site .
Eidi
... scratch first idea! DOH!

Heading back into Eidi my super navigator had already a plan B ... and piloting our way round the tiny streets we found the second campsite... and space!

I say campsite ... but thats probably a trades description act error ... hmmm ... well it was more like camping on someones back garden! and about as big!

But they have a toilet and a shower with hot water .. so for 2 nights it would suffice!

Pitching camp we boiled some water for tea and then headed out for a ride round.

To have to say that the Faroes is completely ungeared for tourists!  You will not find gift shops or coffee bars outside of Törshaven .. so you need to be alittle self sufficient when it comes to hot drinks and lunch! Good job we filled the thermos ... !

Having driven out to Klaksvik and back (nothing there do not bother!!! just another expensive tunnel toll!) we headed back to camp and relaxed for a while before a small photo drive out to Funningsfjörd.

And then our first problem ... it was still light even late and you have to get used to sleeping when its still daylight !

makes for good photography light though .... very moody!

And so ended our first day in a very strange new place :)

Eidi ... smallest campsite in the world :)
You wont have a problem finding the campsite in Eidi .. its well signposted!

And its the only one in the village!

It is a strange place however and when I say campsite ... but thats probably a trades description act error ... hmmm ... well it was more like camping on someones back garden! and about as big!!!!

But they have a toilet and a shower with hot water .. the owners are friendly and not pushy about staying but you may have to fight for space during the busy summer season when the ferry visitis!!

Plenty to see locally and the campsite although at the far north of the islands does not take long to reach from Törshaven.

A nice view from the campsite is a nice reward ....
