Turku Castle and Cathedral

Entrance of the castle

The day started sunny :) So when we woke up, we ate breakfast and got to the bus. Our first stop of the day was Turku Castle. Because of the nice weather we decided to walk from the market place to the castle (about 20 min). This also gave us the opportunity to see a bit more of Turku.

At the castle it wasn't very crowded. The first part of the castle was about the castle during the middle ages and the second part during the renaissance. At some places they had renovated the castle a bit to much, but other parts still had the atmosphere of the old days. There wasn't a lot of furniture left in the castle and at some places they put furniture in the rooms that wasn't in the right style at all: very new. But it is a very nice castle and it takes a while to see everything, the museum is also very big but unfortunately most things there are in finnish.

That was better in the castle there they also had explanations in english and other languages.

After the castle and museum it was lunchtime, there was a cafe at the castle so we went there and had a very good goulash soup, with salad. After the lunch we took the bus back to the marketplace, unfortunately the weather was changing, it was getting clouded. But we walked to the cathedral anyway :) It is a very nice cathedral, with very nice wallpaintings. When we went outside it was raining :(

After the cathedral we did a bit of shopping had coffee and got dinner. After dinner we went back to the hostel, since it was still raining and a bit cold, I decided to go for a swim and a sauna to get warm :)

Turku Castle and museum
Turku castle is a very nice castle, it is close to the harbor about 15/20 min walking from the center. But it is also possible to get there with busline 1.

The entree is 7 euro's. You can get a guided tour in the museum, they have tours in at least finnish and english, i don't know if the tours are good because we walked around on our own. This is also very good because at certain point they have papers explaining things. There is a route through the castle with black arrows so you won't miss anything.
After the tour to the castle the route continues through the museum.

It took us the whole morning to see the whole castle and museum and our feet were tired afterwards so we went to sit and eat something at the castle cafe :) We had a goulash soup that was very good with a nice salad.
