My girlfriend and good friend plan to travel from Beijing, China to Bangkok, Thailand overland. We will travel through Laos to get to our final destination. We will take a train from Beijing to Kunming in the south of China, and then travel by bus onto Laos.

Somewhere in the middle of China, Hunan I think

I didn't sleep too badly last night. I was awoken every couple of hours as the train bumped along futhur down into China. We made the mistake of not buying any breakfast supplies for the journey, so we munched on crisps and popcorn. The view was absolutely spectacular. Not a single part of of the country passed by uninhabited. 1.4 billion people seem to be evenly spread throughout the land. As we progressed deeper south, the vegatation  became more green and lush. The mountains are beautiful as well. Lots of jagged peaks and slopping hillsides. We had a Chinese lunch in the buffet carriage. Not too bad! I have had worser Chinese meals before. The evening came about and we were all pretty tired from the night before so we had a reasonably early night.
