The Indiana Hotel
We had to wake up at 9 this morning so that we could get breakfast before heading up north. The hotel we stayed at was right on the Indian Ocean and we ate breakfast practically on the beach! There were some guys out there giving some camel rides to people who were up for it. I wanted to do it but opted not to for some reason. After packing up our things, we got in two different vans and headed to the town of Malindim about 2 (maybe 3) hours away. We stopped there for lunch and once again had a meal on the beach. I have to admit that I am a little worried about getting sick here. They tell you not to drink the water or brush your teeth with it, or use ice in your drink (if they even have ice!). But none the less, bottled water and hand sanitizer will be my 2 new loves over the next 2 weeks!. After lunch, we drove another 2 hours to Garsen where we will be staying for the next 5 nights.
We are at the YWCA. It isn’t anything near what I thought it might be, but that was ok. We each had dorm style rooms to sleep in. There was no air conditioner and we only had electricity after it got dark, until about 9 or 10 at night. The toilets were not toilets at all, they were porcelain bottoms in the ground in which you had to squat!! Haha!!! That was a bit of a challenge at first J We didn’t have running water as well. For showers, they had water brought in from the river and we took it and just dumped it on ourselves! None the less, this will be a really cool experience!
