Ascent to Pikes Peak

It was a long holiday weekend.  Labor Day weekend actually.  I had not made plans to go home to PA since I had barely been stationed here in Colorado a few months.  I had gotten stationed in Colorado in June 2001.

I decided to take a trip to Colorado Springs for the day.  Little did I know that the traffic would be horrendous.  That is one thing I don't miss about Colorado is the traffic from Denver to Colorado Springs and cities further south.

I drove into Garden of the Gods first and enjoyed visiting the Sights there.

A couple hours later I headed to Pikes Peak.  I paid my money for the "train" ride up the mountain.  It was very crowded.  There is 6 to an area of seats and you are knee cap to knee cap.  It was crunchy,  but I tried to ignore the cramped conditions and enjoy my "train" ride up the mountain top.    I had never been to to many high altitudes like this besides airplanes.  My ears were popping the entire time.  I was chewing gum to keep my mind off the discomfort.

I truly enjoyed my ride.  I bought a few gifts and took some photos for my family back home.  It was a great trip and I recommend it to anyone heading to Colorado Springs to go to Pikes Peak!

I love Colorado Springs, and may visit again, when I make a return trip to the state (whenever that will be). :)
