San Miguel, Day 2
Foo and I spent the night at a guest house in San Miguel that was just breathtaking. It was another one of those hidden gems -- hidden behind old city walls and gates, and once you went inside a secret garden was revealed with a guest house in the rear with two bedrooms. Both had huge windows out onto the garden area, lovely tiled bathrooms with huge walk in showers and rain head showers, stained concrete floors and big comfortable beds. It was a shame that all we had time to do was sleep a few hours here!
Today was a day of touring the area around the main square in San Miguel. Foo and I covered some of it on our own then my friend, Enrique, met us later that afternoon to show us some of his favorite spots in the area.
We had a great walking tour and got to go behind the walls on some of the locations to get a better view. It's nice to have the benefit of having a local to guide you along! I love the area around the Main Square (the Jardin) and La Parroquia. The trees in the Jardin are mostly ficus trees. The ficus here though are huge -- not like the small ficus that is a common house plant in the US -- same tree, just huge because they can be grown outside. The ficus are tightly manicured to maintain an amazing look. So beautiful! After our walkabout, Enrique took us down to his parents' home in Juriquilla on the outskirts of Queretaro for dinner. We got some nice shots of San Miguel from the highway turnout on the hillside overlooking the city as we left.
