Country road just south of Kabyan

I get up really early this morning because I want to be on the 5 morning bus to get to Baguio fairly early where I hopefully can get a bus to take me to Sagada without getting up there too late in the night.

I get up a bit before 5 and then the lady at the hotel tells me that the morning bus is not going this time of the year. It would have been really nice if she had put that on the notice board where she has posted the timetable of the buses - including the 5 am bus. Hence suddenly I got lots of time to relax this morning and get some breakfast before leaving. Maybe I should try something different from boiled rice - noodles it is.

And then I get down to the 7 am bus early and get a perfect seat right next to the driver so I will have a great view during the trip today. After the buses in the Philippines showed their true colour in Baguio I don’t expect the bus to leave until something like 7.

30.  But once again the buses in the country surprise me and it leaves at 7 sharp. Of course it is not really leaving town it is just leaving the bus station and driving down the road about 500 meters and then it stops waiting for something 15 minutes or so. Then finally we are ready to leave the town.

And the drive in the front seat is fairly entertaining. We go through the hilly landscape on the narrow road watching all the rice fields along the road heading towards the big main road. Fortunately there is not a lot of traffic today because it is Sunday. Hence we do not get any of the problems with trucks going the other way like we had when I went to Kabayan. After a couple of hours drive the bus leaves the dirt road and hit the surfaced road to go on the big road to Baguio.

This big road is still interesting but it is not quite up to the standard of the dirt road to Kabayan. After another few hours we start pulling into the bus terminal in Baguio but it takes a while because there is a big traffic jam in the area. But finally the bus arrives. There is one great thing about going on the 7 am bus. This is run by a different bus company to the other buses and it goes to a different terminal. This terminal is incidentally the terminal from where the buses to Sagada depart. Hence when I get into the terminal I see another bus is about to leave. It is not really going out of the terminal all that fast because of the traffic jam. Hence I manage to make my way over there asking the conductor is this the bus to Sagada - yeah sure it is. And I jump in not loosing any time changing buses. And of we go. Ok not right away given we are still stuck in traffic.
