The next morning
we enjoyed our breakfast outside again, with the dog and cat keeping us company.
The weather was still beautiful, but not as hot as the day before. So, far only
one drawback as we were soon to find out. There were no plugs. So we did not
get a chance to charge the batteries for the camera. And even though the kids
packed extra – they ended up being empty. Never fails.. so you just have to
trust me that Switzerland
is indeed very beautiful. Before we left the hostel we signed the guest book
and Sam drew a quick sketch of the castle in it. The hosts were super nice and
we hope to go back there one day.
Since it has cooled off, we decided to have a
try at the Chälengrabenschlucht before leaving for home.
It is right in the
next town over and it was so nice in there. Very cool, easy walk for a while,
but we did not go all the way up, for further up, walking shoes were required
and with only sandals and the little one dragging along, I thought better safe
then sorry. The older kids went to
explore a cave and went all the way back to the car for a flashlight, just to
be disappointed, because it was so short. I was trying to convince my mom to go
to down to grab stuff for a BBQ since there was a table and a grill right in
the canyon – but she was too cold and wanted to enjoy the last rays of
sunshine, before heading back.
continued on, stopped one more time at Migros for drinks, since it was getting
so hot again and then decided to take a look at the border triangle bridge in
Weil. It was also nice, but not something I would drive there for just to see
As we continued on and traffic again was so horrible and it was hot, we
decided to get off the Autobahn again, while we were cursing all the dutchies
and their mobile homes (no offense), nothing personal in it, of course. There
school holidays must have been over. Every other car had yellow plates – NL or
F. After another hour of driving in the heat, we were close to Freiburg and we decided to just find a lake and instead
of sitting in the car, we drove around, found a lake and relaxed for a couple
hours and cooled off. Right before Heidelberg
we stopped in a small town for dinner and met with a friend and it was one of
the best places I have ever eaten at. I
will write a review about it, because if you are ever in that area, you should
not miss it.
It was a
very short vacation and now it seems like we did a lot, but actually we had
plenty of time for everything. Just the drive was too long, because of the
traffic, so never again during school summer holidays.
