Traverse City – a Cherry Stop in the Cherry Capital :)

Going to MI, Mancelona to be exact, was in my mind for approx 1 month. I've been postponing it, because of work and some doubts, but I was completely sure about: “I want to go and I won’t be alone” :) Finally I got the opportunity and took it! Hey! That’s the way to do things, don’t worry about them too much. Life is short. People were asking me: What are you gonna do in MI??? Well, just take a look at the blog and you’ll see it was a great decision!

Traverse City – a Cherry Stop in the Cherry Capital :)

TC
We left the Elk Rapids and drove to Traverse City. This city is the most touristy and biggest in the area. It’s really beautiful and located in front of the lake. Everyone is friendly and they are very proud of their city, which is called “Cherry Capital”.  We parked near to the beach and walked to downtown.

The city is small and cute. Everything is clean, well organized with lovely shops. You will find here unique shops. I mean, no chains. The architecture is very nice here :) Eric drove me to downtown, because I had to buy something: my magnet, haha. Also there was something else I needed to buy: “Flip Flops”. I forgot mine in Lima and would need them the next day, mmm.

I think we all have to think about environment and follow this instruction, haha
We would see, what he planned. We were walking around downtown, enjoying the sunny day and he was showing me all the typical things from the area. There are a lot of tourists in the city, which is annoying the local people. They even invented a word to call the non cool tourists: “fudgies”. This came from the “”Fudge”, of course you can find it all over the States, but its original from here. But I was with a local and wasn’t acting like a crazy tourist, so I wasn’t a fudgie, hehe.

While we were walking, Eric noticed that one of the oldest shops was on sale, why? They were closing after 130 years of business, wow! There was a lovely theater, which is now famous because every year there is a Movie Festival in Traverse City, for independent movies. Anyway, all the stores had to do with cherries: shirts, cups, dishes, food, etc.

cheers!!!
But the one who had most Cherry stuff was: “Cherry Stop” haha.

There I found my magnet and also my Cherry Earrings, yeah!! Now, my outfit was complete. The store has a Cherry atmosphere, besides all the products they sold, the decoration was really nice, hehe. They even had a bar in the back where they offered wine tasting. I didn’t know this area is a good producer of wine. And of course they have Cherry Wine, which is very sweet. We took a sit for the wine tasting and immediately Eric became friend of the bartender and some people who were there for wine tasting too, haha. Besides the wine, they also served cocktails and drinks. All of them related to Cherry, haha.

There was a wine, which was really good and Eric wanted to buy, but they didn’t have it in stock. They would get it the next day. So he bought it, but we would pick the wine next day. It was getting late and there were so many things to see, that we kept on moving. This time we walked at the beach. It was sunny but a bit breezy, so it wasn’t hot. There were people relaxing at the beach, taking sun, playing with their dogs, etc. It was so nice here, but we couldn’t stay for longer. We had to go and get ready for the Poker night.

Well, this wouldn’t be my last time in Traverse City, we had to come back the next day for the wine, yay!!!

The Cherry Stop, a must for your Cherry needs!
There are many cherry shops in Traverse City, but The Cherry Stop is the largest. You could imagine anything you could imagine made of cherries, for example: wine, salsa, candies, sauces, pies, syrups, etc. There are free samples and you can taste it before buying it. Also you can find the cutest souvenirs, including bells, plates, jewelry, clothing, etc.

Although it’s a touristy store, the prices are reasonable. To make your experience better, the employees are friendly and helpful.

The whole atmosphere of the store is very “Cherry” and they also have a small bar where you can taste the wine of the area, including the Cherry Wine. Plus they serve different cocktails and drinks made with Cherries – hehe.

If you are visiting TC, I would recommend you to visit this store if you want to bring back home something that reminds you this beautiful city :)
