I went on to Montreal to finish the debriefing with CIDA about the Ethiopian job, it was mainly more the Government Intercultural Centre that debriefed us to compare our experience and try to get our impression.
I must say that mine was not yet all positive, not the cultural bit but the professionnal part. I felt like CUI was not ready to send us there and that our mandate was totally unclear and we were left alone without any set duty. Hence my growing frustration once I was there. I think I also expected that we would have been awaited at the Addis Ababa office, while other people's experience were not as dark as mine it was clearly understood that I felt we were left to ourselves.
Besides the day filled with assessment, I used my evening to roam downtown Montreal and go shopping or simply enjoyed the view from the hotel, which gave on the downtown and the Bell center. I also met with Ugo shortly while I was there so he showed me the cut between Westmount and the East Island. I was amazed at how he changed, he had warned me and it is true that I might not have recognised him. We got to reconnect a little and I am happy he is at least back up after the health problems he went through.
At the end of that week, I got to take the Via Rail train back to Quebec city.
